On the Friday before the Oscars, Anil Kapoor from Slumdog Millionaire called in from Mumbai to talk to Ryan about Slumdog Millionaire being nominated for ten academy awards and the chemistry between Dev Patel and Freida Pinto.
Talking about laying the red carpet and other preparations for the Oscars, Ryan said that space is so limited with all the media outlets packed in that the azalea bushes they bring get in your crotch, and the bush always pokes him in the inner thigh so he always has a red rash the Monday after the Oscars. Um. Never mind the chafing (or the borderline-TMI), aren’t azaleas poisonous? That rash can’t be good — maybe Ryan’s sensitive to the toxins.
Eliza Dushku from Dollhouse was in talking to Ryan about the show and Fox wanting the first episode to be self-contained whereas they wanted to leave it so people had to come back to find out more. Ryan revealed that he’s the outdoors action type himself, with the motorcycling, bowhunting, rock climbing, river rafting, etc being just his sort of thing. Or not ;-) Can you imagine?! He’s in enough danger with the azaleas. Outdoorsy!Ryan also doesn’t watch chick shows and chick flicks. Hmmmmmm. He’s showing us an entirely new side of himself on the day that the world is shocked because Ryan admitted that he sometimes lies to celebrities on the red carpet. At least he doesn’t lie to his listeners too. Honestly, I can picture Ryan rock climbing and white water rafting but I really can’t imagine him watching the Bachelor or crying at a mushy movie. Wait, did I get that the right way around? Eliza comes across as a cool chick and Dollhouse sounds watchable — I wonder if it’ll hit the UK.
Ahead of today’s Chris Brown/Rihanna update, Ryan complained that Negative Natalie had sent him a link to the disturbing photos that leaked from the LAPD and he’d opened them when he was about to have dinner. Here’s a suggestion, Ryan: put the Blackberry down at dinner or, if that’s too difficult, don’t open something saying ‘OMFG look at these photos’ when you’re about to eat. LAPD are investigating to find the source of the leak and may use polygraphs on everyone involved in the case. According to Ken Baker, Rihanna told police that it wasn’t the first time Chris had been physically abusive, but admitted that she threw the first punch. Brandy from X-17 said that they’d seen Rihanna in a heavily-guarded car around Los Angeles in the last week.
Ryan’s ‘movie mogul mancrush’ Harvey Weinstein talked about The Reader and the reports that he was sabotaging the Slumdog Millionaire campaign.
Taylor Swift was excited to be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Ryan asked her if fans who wouldn’t normally like pop/country could relate to her as a storyteller and she said it’s cool when people say to her that they wouldn’t normally like country music but they’d listened to her album and do now. I think she really does cross over. I’ve always said I’ll listen to any genre of music other than country … but I actually like Taylor Swift, in particular Love Story (which reminds me of Spandau Ballet’s Through the Barricades in the way the story is told).
