Counting Down
It’s September already. Oysters are back in season, Pumpkin Spice Latte is back on the menu at Starbucks, and there are only 121 days and 77 radio shows until New Year’s Eve! If you’re counting, which Ryan and Nick apparently are!
Ryan and Ellen talked about the things the pumpkin spice latte makes them think of: a wreath, the holidays, seeing different colours of berries, the fireplace, the smell of the wood, Thanksgiving, rats in the woodpile, rats in the walls … wait, what? If that’s where they end up when they start talking about drinking a flavoured latte, I dread to think where kale juice could lead.
Ellen’s homework
Ellen’s homework topic today was expiration dating — how you know when it’s over. There were five signs that Ellen had compiled from different sources: when the respect is gone, a lack of sex, getting bored, no longer seeing eye-to-eye and constantly fighting. Ryan said seeing eye-to-eye was a problem for him (he could always stand on his tiptoes).
Ryanalysis
Ryan’s admitted to shedding a tear or two himself, but even he seemed to think the woman who called in because her boyfriend was crying ‘like her mom’ watching people he didn’t know get married was a little too much. Even though it was funny, there was some help at hand: Ryan pointed out that it’s tough for a guy to be both tough and strong and sensitive and caring, Ellen suggested that he might be going through something else, and Dennis suggested leaving him.
Gas
Ryan talked about one of the things he doesn’t like today: getting gas. There’s not much he likes about it because there’s so many things to annoy him: problems paying at the pump, having to go inside, being tempted by a Twix (I’m tempted by a Twix every time he advertises them), needing to use the bathroom … at which point he switched direction and talked about dirty the state of public bathrooms, and those in offices and schools.
lol talking on radio about the dirtiest bathrooms at work or school...tweet me a pic of urs, tag it #bathroompic haha
Interesting request … I haven’t looked too closely at his replies, but some people have obliged!
Sad news
Ryan had heard some sad news from Roger — a sweet man who worked in their building died a couple of days ago.
Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas has been diagnosed with throat cancer and is undergoing treatment at the moment. Ryan’s a big fan and played back clips from when he was on the radio show and from the Letterman show yesterday. Fortunately the prognosis is thought to be fairly good and there’s a good chance of a full recovery.
Simon’s new hobby
Ellen had an interesting sleaze story about Simon Cowell: he’s taken up gardening to deal with stress. Ryan was obviously concerned to hear his buddy is stressed enough to have taken an interest in begonias, saying: “Dennis would you call British Airways and book the first flight out tonight. I’ve got to go handle this!”
