On Air with Ryan Seacrest 2010-01-27
Kara DioGuardi
Ryan played clips of the tension between Kara and Katy Perry on American Idol. Kara played down the tension but said her Italian cousins wanted to know if they needed to come over and slap Katy!
Avril Lavigne
Avril walked in while Ryan was talking to Kara DioGuardi — she had so much fun yesterday, she wanted to come back. Ryan premiered Avril’s new song Alice from the soundtrack to Alice in Wonderland and Avril told Ryan about meeting Tim Burton and him being everything she wanted him to be. Ryan asked a little more about Avril’s new album, due out this summer.
They also talked about Avril’s appearance on American Idol and Ryan played back the clip of the contestant who hit on both him and Simon, and Ryan passing the business card — which had the guy’s cellphone number and a smiley face on it — to Aaron the security guard. Ryan also said he felt that Simon had flirted with Avril and Ellen K wanted to know if that made Ryan feel jealous.
Randy Jackson
Randy caught the end of one of a discussion about proposals and wanted to know how Ryan is going to propose to his girlfriend, pretending he thought the discussion was about Ryan’s planned proposal not a caller’s. Ryan said he’s a traditionalist and needs to be more than one step, then asked Randy how he proposed. Randy joked that it was over a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, before saying it was traditional and there was finger food … sounded like Ryan was tempted, but he didn’t bite. Ellen asked Ryan if Randy knew the news … Randy guessed Ryan’s engaged but Ellen said no and said Ryan got asked to do something big, before clarifying that Ryan had begged to present at the Grammys. The conversation was zigzagging around and Randy wanted to know what the show is about so Ryan said that he’d been in a research meeting where he was asked how he’d describe his show in a word and he pointed out that he has a five hour show because he can’t! Randy wanted to go back to Ryan’s engagement though, saying that Simon had told him Ryan was engaged. Ryan asked if Randy liked her and Randy described her before Ryan said there was no girlfriend. Then Randy said Simon just wants Ryan off the market so that the market is open for him before speculating that Simon’s got a secret marriage somewhere, maybe in Marrakech! Eventually (sadly!) they stopped joking around and moved on to talking about American Idol. At the end of Randy’s call, Jeff Probst joined in and started talking about having a job swap with Ryan, before putting an unknown caller on … Ryan and Ellen were trying to guess who it was. They were convinced that it was John Meyer, but it was Alec Baldwin, who didn’t know he was on the air and said the ‘f’ word! The whole interview was crazy nuts — I loved it! Ryan and Randy are going to Clive Davis’ Grammy event this Saturday. Simon won’t be there because he’s in London.
Ken Ehrlich
Ken came on to talk about the Grammys and Ryan was open to presenting. He had to be persuaded a little, but he acquiesced eventually. Ken announced there would be a performance from Mary J Blige and Andrea Bocelli in response to Haiti.
Ryan talks about Sweethearts
With Valentine’s Day coming up, Ryan and Ellen were talking about the new phrases on Sweethearts this year, and they both came up with a few of their own. I could come up with a few for Ryan …
Ryan’s falsetto
Ryan often calls people out for dishonesty when they talk in a higher voice than normal, so Ellen pointed out to Ryan that he talks in a high voice when he’s talking about things he’s not comfortable with … like girlfriends and relationships!
