On Air with Ryan Seacrest 2009-10-28

Michael Bublé

Really enjoyed this interview, though I would have liked it more without being subjected to the songs. I don’t know what it is about his singing that makes me want to slash my wrists but it’s really not my thing! Ryan seems to be a pretty big fan, using it as part of his seduction and telling Michael the music and lyrics make him a better guy. Michael wasn’t happy that Ryan only plays his music up to ‘the point of impact’…

Ryan asked if Michael had fun on The X Factor last week. He replied Simon Cowell said to say hello and commented on how many viewers the show had — 15 million, which Ryan pointed out is big for a small island like England. England’s not an island, unless something happened to Scotland and Wales while I wasn’t looking, but 48% audience share is pretty impressive. They also discussed Michael’s girlfriend, who’s learning English faster than he’s learning Spanish, and Ryan ‘jogging’ to Michael’s album.

Michael will tour America, Canada and Europe next year to promote his album Crazy Love. The tickets are already on sale here … I think I’ll pass, but I’d love to hear him talking to Ryan again. He’s funny!

Lady Gaga

Ryan talked about the last 12 months and Lady Gaga being the hottest artist of the year. Gaga thanked him for being supportive of the music and said she loves her fans, talking about how great they are supporting her and wanting her music to do well. They also talked about Lady Gaga’s new show, which has a giant cute for a stage. She wants to get people to look at the stage instead of watching the screens — that sounds like a good move. Ryan also asked about her dad’s recovery from heart surgery; Gaga described herself as a daddy’s girl and said she’s happy to have him. Ryan asked what he thinks of her as a performer. Lady Gaga said he appreciates what she does and is happy that she didn’t change who she is.

Gaga got really excited when Ryan played the track on the radio! She said afterwards she wrote the song in Norway, talking about German House/Techno and Industrial Goth music as influences. Ellen has relatives in Norway so the two of them talked about how beautiful it is there. Ryan asked about the song she’s written for Adam Lambert — she has written a song for his album but isn’t singing on it.

Kenny Ortega

Ryan asked Kenny what kind of shape Michael Jackson was in while they were preparing for the tour, and how it was the night before his death. Kenny said that Michael was building himself up and was excited about the tour. The night before he was enthusiastic, happy and looking forward to something they were planning to work on the next day. Ryan commented that the cast’s reactions when they found out about Michael’s passing must have been on film; Kenny explained that they didn’t want the film to be about that, preferring it to be about his enthusiasm and dreams for the show. I loved the MJ mix that Ryan played after this interview.

Chief William Bratton

Ryan had the chief of police in the studio during his last four hours in uniform. He talked about having a great 7 years in LA and achieving everything he said he would, and looking forward to going home to New York to take up a phenomenal offer in the private sector.

Don’t call me sunshine

This cracked me up today: Ryan was uncomfortable when Manny on the Streets called him sunshine … and wasn’t too impressed with the alternative either!

Did anyone else immediately think of this?

Adam Lambert CD cover

Ryan and his team talking about reaction to Adam Lambert’s CD cover:

I love the matter-of-fact way Ryan talks about playing with the My Little Pony castle … I can just imagine him zooming toy cars around it!
