Heidi Klum

Heidi greeted Ryan with “Guten Tag, wie geht’s Dir?” Ooohhhhh I love a bit of Deutsch!

Heidi’s show Project Runway has moved to a new channel and has moved from New York to Los Angeles, which was a change for them all and meant a lot of celebrities who would have liked to be involved but couldn’t take the time out to fly to New York could now be on the show. Heidi said she wasn’t really worried that Project Runway would find a new home, but although she has other work she would have been sad if the show didn’t go ahead because she loves finding talent and putting people on the air to showcase talent.

Ryan saw Heidi’s husband Seal at the gym and said he looks like he’s in military training and his run was bouncing Ryan off his treadmill. While talking about her family, Ryan wanted to know how Heidi and Seal keep their kids normal. Heidi said they try to bring them up the way their parents did and are very family oriented.

Heidi is nominated for an Emmy again, along with Ryan and others, but they both sounded happy that they’re not hosting this year.

Cheating

Ryan read out a report that a staggering number of 7th graders copy their homework and said that he’s now decided he can’t have kids in case they ask for help with their homework and he doesn’t know how to do it himself. I can think of a lot of reasons not to have children but that wouldn’t be one of them … Ryan just needs to marry a smart girl and let her deal with it! I’m quite shocked by the extent of cheating … I don’t think there was that much cheating in tests in the UK when I was at school, though as I never particularly needed to cheat it’s possible I just didn’t notice. I do remember the odd person trying to write things on chewing gum wrappers though. So lame! Ryan said it’s probably easier to cheat now with technology, but you can also use technology to catch people out.

The lord of tight teeshirts knows what women want!

Ellen is forever my hero for making Ryan reading out that about his buddy Simon! Simon apparently bought Alexandra Burke a $14,000 Chanel handbag for her 21st Birthday. Ryan said, “he has all these bags and when they’re out of season for him, he just gives them away…” Funny, Ryan. It’s been way too long since Simon was on Ryan’s show — I love listening to their bitchy-funny bickering!

Kathy Lee Gifford

Ryan’s uncomfortable about asking questions about the book ‘Just when I thought I dropped my last egg’…

Ryan asked what’s in the book. Kathy said she tries to write with humour about how when everything is going south in a physical way, you can still find success. She didn’t expect to come back to television, and talked about how surprising how life can be, how cruel life is to women, particularly of a certain maturity. She thinks women after the age of 50 can find their years rewarding if they know where to look and how to keep a sense of humour. Ryan wanted to know if there were things she was nervous about writing, but Kathy said there weren’t. She gets up and just gets on with it and she knows who she is. She’s not worried what other people say about you, saying ‘if you have a pulse, you have a purpose’.

Ryan told Kathy that he doesn’t always remember what he’s talked about on the radio (no, really?), so she teased him that memory is the second thing to go and he’s not that much behind her. She described Ryan as a sea of sanity inside a sea of insanity, but Ryan quipped she only hears the parts that are broadcast!

Kathy went on to talk about the advice she gave her daughter, who’s just starting out as an actress, that she should approach acting with the same sense of respect that she would if she was going to be a brain surgeon and told her to ‘keep your head about yourself while you’re keeping your panties on!’

Ryan picked up on Kathy saying there’s no work ethic. She said Ryan has a work ethic, but she wants her kids to be grateful for what they have and doesn’t like the mentality some people have where they put their life on hold waiting for someone else to impact it.
