Before talking to Portia de Rossi, Ryan played a clip of her on the Ellen show. He asked what it was like doing that. She’d thought it was weird being interviewed by her wife and talked about the difficulty of getting the balance between too informal and too formal. Ryan asked why she chose that particular role from all the ones she was offered. She wanted something interesting that she could be proud of, and she thought it was a fun show that people would want to watch. Ryan said the character looked interesting and she looks hot. Talking about Arrested Development, she said they’re all told not to talk about it, but she doesn’t have the details anyway. Ryan played a clip where Ellen had said she’d heard they were having a baby, and asked if it’s true … Portia replied to Ellen ‘I probably should have told you!’ She told Ryan that they’re not currently talking about having a family, then Ellen K asked if Ryan would be a candidate if they went looking for a little ‘swimmer’ …. wow that was awkward! Way to kill a conversation. Neither Ryan or Portia had much to say to that until Portia said “Ryan make it stop” and Ryan apologised for his Ellen. It was actually funny, but in a really awkward, did-she-really-just-say-that way. How long will it take for that to become a blind item?
American Idol
Ryan started talking about Idol and Roger from security wanted to know, “What the **** was Adam singing?” LOL! Adam was awesome. He’s totally outrageous, but I love that in a performer.

Ryan said it was like going into a hookah room in a club … and I thought that comment was as left field as Adam. Ryan explained that Megan Joy was so sick she’d been quarantined. Ryan had talked to the doctor and been told that she has influenza B … Ryan wanted to know if he should stand ten feet away and was told if he stood next to her, he would catch it because it’s airborne. So Ryan’s now waiting to catch that and infect his staff. Get a flu jab!

Ryan’s Roses today is so cute! Is it bad to be a little disappointed when there’s no drama? The guy who received the call had a half-used bottle of Viagra in his gym bag that his wife of fifteen years said he hadn’t been using while she was around. But the guy wanted to send the flowers to his wife, came up with a cheesy poem for the card, and during the conversation explained he was taking it in case his wife was interested at a regular time they used to get together. Part of me is not entirely convinced, but it sounds like those two really need to learn to communicate!
Octomom

Ryan was talking a lot about the coverage of octomom yesterday. He said he’d wanted to watch the news after getting in from American Idol, but just got to watch crazy coverage of her standing in a sea of people and flashing cameras like some kind of rock star.

Ryan was saying, and most of the callers seemed to agree with him, that although the coverage is driven by public interest, it’s crossing a line and it’s weird watching paparazzi climbing on the SUV roof, etc. When the reality host and producer thinks it’s too much, you know it’s too much! It’s definitely crazy, and this side of the pond I’d say she’s more notorious than famous.
Talking point: Bullying
The show started with a rerun of the section about bullying. It’s interesting hearing the different perspectives from people who’ve been at both sides of bullying. Even though as a kid I was a shy, overweight, overachiever with a different accent (might as well have painted a target on top of my head!), I was actually never bullied … there was no bullying at the small primary school I went to, and at high school I unintentionally faced down the bullies early on with my poker face! A few weeks in to the first year, one older girl who had a reputation as a bit of a bully cornered me and said she wanted a fight after school. I shrugged and said fine … she took another look at me (I have always been tall and at that point I was still overweight) and abruptly changed her mind. In my mind I was rapidly plotting my escape, but as I tend to appear more laid back the more threatened I feel, she probably thought I was thinking about ways to squash her.
