Tonight’s the night! We’ll find out whether Scotty or Lauren will be this year’s American Idol. According to ryanseacrest.com, more than 122 million votes were cast, which is another record.

On the radio show this morning, Ryan said the results were in but he didn’t know who the winner was at that time. He didn’t say who he thinks will take it, but got a prediction out of both Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler. Steven’s backed Lauren since the first time he heard her sing, and he still believes she can win. Randy thinks Scotty will win.

Ryan explained what was happening with Lauren yesterday. TMZ reported that she might not be well enough to sing and could be replaced by Haley. Ryan was still finding out information at the last second and called up the doctor to explain. Lauren and Scotty were on with Ryan too, and Lauren was writing notes because she was under orders to rest her voice.

Ryan is broadcasting his radio show from the Nokia Theatre so he’s close on hand for the American Idol finale. It’s a busy week and Ellen’s seen his bathroom full of toiletries, but there’s no pillow so it looks like he’s going home at some point.

Ryan’s nervous after looking at at the photos of the “celebrities” who’ll be sitting in the audience … he doesn’t know some of the names and he might get distracted wondering who people are.

Ellen saw the girls rehearsing dance moves, and one of them was really annoyed with the choreographer while she was trying to learn how to dance.

Hines confirmed Ryan’s claim they played together towards the end of his interview. Ellen still doesn’t sound convinced!

They didn’t hang around much! It’s hard to believe this season’s almost over. Ryan announced there were 95 million votes cast for the final three, which is the highest non-finale vote in the show’s history and third highest overall. Not bad for a show that many people were writing off before the season started!

Ryan’s trainer told him to stretch his ankle and open up his armpit to let the energy and emotions out in the morning. I’ve listened but I really don’t get it. This is clearly important; I think Ryan should make an educational video so we can see it in action …

Ryan talked about tweeting during the commercials on Idol and having to watch the timezone because people got pissed when he tweeted the result before the show aired west coast. Jay asked about the biggest story Ryan broke, and his first jobs in LA. Ryan talked about his start in LA radio; he started off-air as a sound engineer, then drove the radio station van … which he took home and used on dates. It wasn’t long before he was in TV, and Jay played a clip of Ryan on Wild Animal Games.

Next up it was show and tell time. Ryan showed some of the stuff he carries around in his briefcase, including his plate, cutlery and napkin. Cute! Ryan started squirming a little when Jay asked about Julianne. He said she’s beautiful, then made a big announcement: he’s coming back to host American Idol next year.

Ryan talked about the new judges, and being nervous about reading back Steven’s comments because he has no idea what they mean. Jay called Randy the glue; Ryan said he comes with the studio. From Idol, they went on to talking about some of Ryan’s work as a producer, in particular how Keeping Up With The Kardashians came about.

The contestants are going to do three songs each on Idol this week. Ryan said it’s tight so he thinks it’ll come down to how well they perform in the show, but he didn’t want to give a prediction as he likes to be on the side of the kid when he’s standing up there.

Ryan will be on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this evening at 11:35/10:35c on NBC. On the radio this morning, he and Ellen tried to come up with an anecdote.

Ryan talked with Nicole Scherzinger about the US version of The X Factor and his old friend Simon Cowell. Nicole will be performing her new single on American Idol this week.

Any comment I might have made about the loose tie was lost when I was distracted by the reflection of his fine … lines.

Ryan said guys spray perfume on their pillowcases before they goes to sleep at night so they dream of girls. This is something he first did way back in junior high!

Ryan spends five minutes on his morning routine taking vitamins and fish oils and other supplements. Five minutes? That’s a LOT of supplements. Today this affected his radio show because he had a fish oil capsule stuck in his throat, causing him trouble all morning.

Not for the first time this season, Ryan brought a little action closer to the studio audience.

He scared me with that one! For a second there, I was worried he was going to hurt himself.

Ryan addressed this saying, “Remind me not to dive for beachballs.” Apparently he was pre-conditioned to leap for a beachball from childhood visits to stadiums. Luckily he doesn’t seem to have been hurt, though he thought the Idol doctor might want to examine his head!

Ryan asked Steven about the other judges’ reaction to Haley on last night’s performance show, whether the right contestants are left in the competition, and whether he’ll stick around for another season.

Colin’s the latest “Hunk Week” guest and Ryan continued to sound delighted to be surrounded by the competition good looking guys. Colin redeemed himself quite quickly by telling Ryan he’s a very good-looking guy too and his nieces clearly have great taste as they have crushes on Ryan.

Ryan asked Colin about his personal life, then Colin turned it around and said he’d met Ryan’s lovely girlfriend in Vegas a few years ago. Ryan said he wasn’t sure he wanted to hear that, considering the name of the movie (and he’d just found out that Colin is newly single!) but Colin gave Ryan a sweatshirt, with Velcro lettering, which Ellen immediately said he would never wear. She knows him well as Ryan said he couldn’t even read it out on air … but he did want to know if this was something borrowed or brand new.

Lady Gaga is this week’s guest mentor on American Idol, and it seems she’s caused the producers and network execs a bit of a headache with footwear they felt wasn’t appropriate for prime time TV. Ryan, keeping it clean for his audience too, said Gaga was wearing a “popular female tool on her feet” … and seemed amused by the conversations people were having about it at Idol. Ryan also revealed that he doesn’t vote on Idol so he’s never called the numbers he gives out … and he hasn’t been to Dick’s either, despite what you may think. I love Ryan’s sense of humour and how he plays with the things people say about him. Very funny and very cool.

Ryan’s LA brother Mario was in studio this morning, which was GREAT for a few stories from Ryan’s past. They talked about a field trip to Mario’s parents’ home a few years ago where there was a room full of career memorabilia (which Ryan said he took items from to sell at celebrity auctions …) and Ryan agreed with comments Mario’s made about the importance of family dinners, saying some of his great childhood memories involved sitting around the table talking after his family had made dinner together. Ryan finished off the interview with a story about one of his favourite nights with Mario — another roadtrip, along with another friend — and explaining Mario’s Spanish nickname for him.

I guess that’s the stuff that looks … questionable. I guess it must have some redeeming qualities as Ryan’s looking super-skinny in that photo.

Ryan told Chelsea he watches her show at night, then wants to send an email to tell her that something was really funny … but then gets shy and doesn’t send it! Chelsea said she loves when people send her feedback, but Ryan’s afraid that she’ll respond and he won’t have anything funnier to say back! Ryan seems so naturally witty that it’s surprising he’d feel that way, but maybe there’s more pressure when it’s less spontaneous and he has a chance to think about it.

Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough both dressed up in Burberry for tonight’s Met Gala in NYC. The cute couple posed together on the red carpet, on their way in to take their place at the British fashion house’s table.

Ryan flew to NYC following the news that Osama bin Laden has been killed by US forces.
