Idol 10: Top 6 performance show

Posted by alice on Thu, 28 Apr 2011

Ryan explained why Haley wasn’t ready to sing right after her intro last night on Idol: her ear piece pack had slipped down into her clothing and a couple of engineers had to be sent in after it.

That wasn’t the only last minute drama last night. An hour before the show started, the running order was changed, which threw off all their cues. At one point, Ryan wasn’t sure they were going to pull it off. They did, even though he had a lot of distractions … Jennifer’s shiny legs, Randy’s sweater and Penny Marshall.

Pimped moms and puppies

Posted by alice on Wed, 27 Apr 2011

Mother’s day is coming up. Ryan’s pimping moms out on KIIS so he called his mom to find out what she wants for mother’s day. As soon as she answered, he started complaining about the phone line again! Ellen wants a puppy for mother’s day. Connie isn’t keen on that idea … but could she resist a face like this?

It’s easter this weekend, which, for Ryan, is a great excuse to go nuts on candy! He actually gets two hall passes: one for eating candy and another for wearing girly colours.

Ryan drives innovative marketing partnership

Posted by alice on Thu, 21 Apr 2011

It only seems like yesterday that he was driving the E! News van, but today we read that Ryan is the driving force behind an innovative new marketing partnership between Clear Channel Radio and Relativity Media that will deliver exclusive promotional content relating to the latest big movie releases to Ryan and Clear Channel’s massive multi-platform audience.

With a national footprint across 150 cities and appealing performance against the coveted 18-34 movie-going audience, Ryan Seacrest also serves as a significant cornerstone to the deal, offering unique multi-media platforms – including “On-Air with Ryan Seacrest,” “AT40” and ryanseacrest.com — which will distribute compelling content featuring A-list Hollywood actors and actresses.

Kavanaugh added, “As the consumer looks more and more to digital and interactive content, Clear Channel’s cross-platform deal is a critical step in providing Relativity a direct link to its movie-going audience. Ryan Seacrest really envisioned this integrated partnership, and brought together all of the Clear Channel assets, people, and venues. Without his leadership, this deal would have never happened.”

“Relativity Media is an ideal partner because of its interesting and compelling content offerings. I think we’ve only scratched the surface on the possibilities of blending between the studios and our digital and terrestrial platforms,” said Ryan Seacrest.

The first movie promoted as part of the agreement was Limitless, which was number 1 at the box office on its opening weekend.

No surprise, as the movie clearly had a lot of promotion, but it was done in a way that felt like in-depth entertainment rather than saturation marketing, so this collaboration seems like a great fit!

Obstruction in the road

Posted by alice on Fri, 15 Apr 2011

When Ryan was driving home after Wednesday’s Idol, there was a guardrail and other debris in the road blocking access to his street. Ryan decided to move it out of the way, with the help of one other guy, but those things are heavy! It took them about 20 minutes to move the guardrail out of the way, while other drivers lined up behind Ryan’s car and just watched without offering any help. When he got home, Ryan looked at his hands and thought they looked as if he’d worked on cars for ten days straight … and he still had grime in his fingernails.

Idol 10: Randy Jackson talks about Pia's elimination

Posted by alice on Thu, 14 Apr 2011

Ryan and Randy talked about their colleague, the most beautiful woman in the world. Randy being the most beautiful man over 40 (self proclaimed) could understand the pressure that brought! Ryan asked Randy about Pia’s elimination last week, and whether the judges thought they shouldn’t have used the save so early. Randy thinks the elimination will turn out to have been the best thing for her, but thinks the judges need another save next year. Randy also talked about the new season of America’s Best Dance Crew (Ryan has a particular interest in what dancers get up to off the floor) and plans for next week when a certain someone gets into town.

Ryan and Ellen head for the hills

There’s new equipment at Ryan’s gym … but it’s a bit high tech and he couldn’t figure out how to work it! In Ryan’s mind, everyone around him is there thinking that he’s not a regular at the gym and he doesn’t know what he’s doing. As he’s male, it’s not as if he could ask for help.

What's Ryan's deal?

Posted by alice on Tue, 12 Apr 2011

Ryan and Larry King have monthly man dates, during which they talk about love, sex and relationships. Today they brought that topic onto Ryan’s show, with Larry talking about his declining sex life and having young children at an age where many of his contemporaries have grandchildren. Then the conversation turned to Ryan’s personal life, and Ryan — sounding adorably awkward about whether he’s ready for commitment — said his deal is L. O. V. E.

RSP: Khloé & Lamar starts strong

Posted by alice on Mon, 11 Apr 2011

Ryan Seacrest Productions had two new shows on E! yesterday, and both are off to a good start according to figures in The Hollywood Reporter. 2.6 million viewers tuned in to watch the latest Keeping Up with the Kardashians spin-off, and 1.3 million people kept it on E! to watch The Dance Scene. Judging by comments on twitter, both shows seem to have been well received so it seems like RSP can do no wrong at the moment! Both shows look great, but I can’t wait to watch The Dance Scene when it airs in the UK later this month.

And it doesn’t end there: tomorrow we finally get to see the much anticipated season two of Emmy Award winning Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution! This time Jamie takes on Los Angeles, and we know from the previews that he’s met with some resistance.

The most powerful man in Reality TV

Posted by alice on Wed, 6 Apr 2011

Photo: @THR

Ryan took the number one spot on The Hollywood Reporter’s Reality Power list. The article explaining why he’s number one (not that we need any convincing!) is a great read. Here are a few of the many highlights:

He is everywhere. For the impact he has made — and continues to make — as the agent and arbiter of popular culture, the American Idol host is No. 1 on our list.

Burke, who previously served as Comcast’s COO, couldn’t be happier. “It is rare to find someone who excels both in front of and behind the camera, but that certainly applies to Ryan,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “He’s been a big part of E!’s success in recent years both on-air and as a producer, and we are pleased to be in business with him.”

Indeed, in a universe where many outsiders ask, “What does this man do to earn more than $55 million a year?” — after all, he doesn’t act, sing or dance — Seacrest has the industry wondering, what does he not do?

Seacrest has another 19 projects in development and nine more being considered. They range from game shows to docuseries, and he smiles at the mention of each of them. Unlike many brand-name producers who slap their names on series and walk away, Seacrest is famous for his involvement in every stage, from casting to tone to the music in his shows.

“I work best inundated with things,” Seacrest says, “when it’s like raining information.”

To hear Fuller tell it, it is Seacrest who deserves much of the credit. “He’s the unsung hero of American Idol,” gushes Fuller, who praises the ease with which Seacrest carries the live show, comparing him as many do to legends like Dick Clark. “Ryan is one person I would not want to lose.”

Finally, there’s his hush-hush cable network. Seacrest says the idea is “still very active,” and he will be a partner in it if the team, which includes CAA and live entertainment giant AEG, can get it on the air.

Ryan’s position at the top of this list is hard-earned and well-deserved, and the article highlights a side of Ryan that often seems to be overlooked by those who underestimate him or think he’s just a [very] pretty face or an inoffensive purveyor of all things pop culture.

RSF: The Voice heads to Philadelphia

Posted by alice on Wed, 6 Apr 2011

Ryan announced today that The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is the next lucky recipient of a state-of-the-art multimedia centre courtesy of the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. This amazing initiative gives the community a double benefit: it offers a pleasant distraction to sick children at a time they need it most, and it provides aspiring young broadcasters with the opportunity to gain practical experience in a worthwhile and rewarding environment.

The press release includes comments from Ryan and Steven M. Altschuler, who is the CEO of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Ryan Seacrest:

“Throughout my 20-year career in the entertainment business, I’ve toured many hospitals and have consistently been amazed by the courage of children and their families in light of the hardships they face. Recognized as one of the best children’s hospitals in the country, I am thrilled to bring our program to The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Not only is The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia leading pediatric clinical and research innovation, it is a national leader in developing techniques to support the patient’s emotional well-being. THE VOICE will be a new addition to their existing Child-Life programs and will provide a lively form of interactive entertainment.”

Steven M. Altschuler, M.D.:

“The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is proud to be the recipient of the Ryan Seacrest Foundation’s THE VOICE broadcast media center. THE VOICE will offer a creative outlet for our patients to learn about the broadcast arts, operate an in-house studio or even to listen to the broadcast, and call in requests. It gives them a little bit of control that is so often lost while in the hospital.

The center is scheduled to open this summer. Follow @RyanFoundation to keep up-to-date with developments.
