Idol 10: 6. Los Angeles

The Los Angeles auditions started on a high, but unfortunately things rapidly hit rock bottom. First up was a contestant who believes god brought American Idol to LA for a purpose, and she is that purpose. They do say god moves in mysterious ways.

The second contestant wasn’t great either, but made it through to Hollywood despite making Jennifer feel old by saying he had a crush on her while he was growing up.

Ryan’s voiceover warned us things were about to take a turn for the worse, which set the tone for the rest of the show. The next guy didn’t have power in the right place … but the judges had plenty of fuel.

The next two contestants were buddies, but they were equally bad and equally deluded so their friendship didn’t suffer from the double rejection. Then a singer made it through, but she wasn’t from Los Angeles — she’d originally auditioned on MySpace.

The MySpace contestant was followed by possibly the oddest audition of the show, a girl who brought her own mic and couldn’t seem to stop saying “ow!” Though that actually caught on, as we were all saying that when she started singing. And once she started, she did NOT want to stop and when Randy left the room, she followed him. An attempt to take her microphone away failed, and eventually security had to take over.

A dancer had the moves to get her through to the next round. Steven and Randy were clearly big fans of her talents.

Next to underwhelm was a freelance music producer who’d worked with millions of a few music legends Chaka Khan. He and Randy “be beefin” … but he left his CD with Ryan.

The stream of delusional contestants continued to flow, briefly interrupted by two brothers who sang together and were a hit with the judges, before continuing to the end with a guy who was much too old to audition. Ryan apparently wasn’t a fan …

Next week it’s San Francisco, and Ryan said they’d reserved the best talent until last. They sure didn’t waste much of it on this episode!
