X17 talked to Larry King about Ryan taking over from him on CNN.
“He’d be my suggestion. I’m a close friend of his. He’s in Paris now. I spoke to him yesterday; did his show in the morning yesterday. It’s almost not objective because he’s one of my favourite people.”
Larry went on to question Ryan’s interest in politics, saying he could have a difficult time doing the show if he’s not interested. If Ryan’s interest in politics is there, he’s Larry’s number one recommendation.
In this second video, Larry said he doesn’t think it’s going to happen, but he’d like it to.
“I hope he does because I think he’s terrific.”
In an interview with Extra TV, Larry said, “I love Ryan. He’s very intelligent, but I need to have a fiery political discussion with him first.” Regardless of Ryan’s interest in being Larry’s successor, that would definitely be entertaining!
Ryan is listed in the second wave of Teen Choice Awards categories and nominees. You can vote for him in the “Choice TV: Personality” and “Choice Twit” categories. RSP shows are represented too with the Kardashians nominated in the “Choice TV: Parental Unit” and “Choice Female Hottie” categories. Kim’s up against Ryan for “Choice Twit” too, but clearly Ryan’s twittery is greater so she’ll have to be content with being a hottie.
Voting is open to teenagers, so if you are a teenager, or you are in possession of a willing teenager or even an unwilling one, register and vote, vote, vote. Because who doesn’t want to see Ryan strike a comfortable pose with a tasteful award bigger than he is …
Ryan holds at #44 on the Forbes.com list of the World’s Most Powerful Celebrities.
He hosts American Idol, the American Top 40 radio countdown, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, E! News and ABC’s New Year’s Eve special. In addition to lucrative deals with Clear Channel Radio ($15 million a year), Idol parent CKX ($15 million) and the Comcast Entertainment Group ($15 million), Seacrest also develops and produces TV shows, including E’s Keeping up with the Kardashians and ABC’s Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. The Atlanta native also shills for Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola and Microsoft’s Bing.
Ryan led the Daytime Emmys tribute to Dick Clark with an introduction about American Bandstand and what it did for popular music:
“Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. What a daytime legacy. And because of Dick Clark and Bandstand, daytime television did more for popular music than any other form of entertainment. There aren’t enough hands to count all the artists who owe their careers to Bandstand. All you need to do is ride down the strip here in Las Vegas and look at the marquees; Bandstand performers are still packing them in. Let’s take a look at how we rocked, how we sang along and how we danced along to Bandstand.”
“Every afternoon for almost 40 years, 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year, American Bandstand provided the soundtrack to our lives, bringing to America all the new musical trends. From rock and roll, to rap, to disco, to heavy metal, kids danced to the latest beats thanks to Bandstand.”
This was followed by performances from artists who got a break on Bandstand: The Spinners, Jersey Boys representing The Four Seasons, Marie Osmond, Tony Orlando and Chubby Checker, then recorded messages from Garth Brooks, Simon Cowell, Cher, Donny Osmond, Frankie Avalon and Barry Manilow.
The most touching part of the tribute was when Ryan sat with Dick in the audience and spoke about working with Dick as people around them started to stand up to show their respect:
“A few years ago when I had the opportunity to cohost Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve with the man whose name is above the title, it was said I’d be Dick’s eventual successor. Believe me, if I live to be 300, I could never fill your shoes. I personally want to thank you for what you’ve done for our industry, for music, and for me. I’m proud to be your friend and I love you, Dick.”
Ryan looked choked up as Dick thanked him and joked about writing Ryan’s speech, then said a few words thanking the artists who’d appeared on Bandstand over the years.
The tribute closed with a performance of Bandstand Boogie and a lot of love from the audience and Ryan held it together as the cameras focussed on an emotional Dick Clark.

The show offers a fascinating look inside the lives of ordinary people whose irrational behavior is so out of control that they are on the verge of a personal crisis.

McKenna’s unique approach to personal transformation has already cured millions of people, including the world’s top celebrities, CEOs and royalty.

If you or someone you know has a serious phobia, compulsion, or bizarre disorder, please contact our Casting Department at 323-463-3340 and ask for Brett.
Examples may include (but aren’t limited to):
AGORAPHOBIA – Can you leave the house to get to a job interview or even to attend your own child’s wedding?
SOCIALDISORDERS – Are you an adult still living with your parents? Is it impossible to date or socialize?
COMPULSIVESHOPPING – Are you so deeply in debt that it’s destroying your finances and their marriage/relationships?
POST-TRAUMATICSTRESSDISORDER (PTSD) – Are you a person with post-traumatic stress disorder who cannot move forward in life?
Deadline Hollywood reports that Ryan Seacrest Productions will be working on a pilot for a new series with Paul McKenna. Each show would involve Paul trying to help someone living with an ‘incurable’ condition.
Pensacola, Florida, has been in the news because of tar balls on the beach. Ryan’s mom Connie is in the area, in Destin, Florida, where Ryan spent his spring breaks and summers growing up, so he called her on this morning’s show to talk about current conditions.
There was a report yesterday that the beach had to be closed because of tar balls, but Connie said she took a look earlier and it’s beautiful at the moment. She found out that it took around five hours to clean the beach up yesterday but there are people on the beaches and in the water again.
The topics covered were how technology is changing entertainment; using technology to close the gap between people and the world we live in; dealing with negative aspects of technology; who’s the biggest techie on Idol and what technology Ryan uses.
Ryan talked about how technology enables people to feel connected, which is something he thinks is good for the type of show he produces and hosts:
We want them to feel connected to us doing it. Usually it’s in real time. American Idol is in real time, so it’s much like a sporting event. You want to know that people are out there and that people are rooting for a specific contestant and that they identify with them.
Ryan was asked about Idol Gives Back bringing people closer, but used a more recent example from the CNN Gulf Disaster appeal: every time a particular tweet got retweeted, Bing donated $10. This raised $100,000 for the appeal.
Improvements in technology has its downsides too. Ryan didn’t seem too concerned about issues such as privacy; trusting his team to handle any issues that arise and looking at the opportunities it brings.
But, as long as we are managing that and putting an all-hands-on-deck team on that, the ability to tap into people’s brains and minds and creativity and thought process and enlightenment in an instant, around the world, is fascinating. It allows you also to understand different cultures, people’s different backgrounds, so I think that’s good.
Ryan wasn’t sure who is the biggest techie on Idol, saying that he likes the way it’s enables him to engage on a large scale even if he doesn’t master it all. It’s no surprise that Ryan said he’s on his Blackberry all the time.
On today’s radio show, Jimmy Kimmel called in to talk to Ryan about recording his show on his laptop after a power failure in his studio left him without a control room or cameras but with guests and an audience. It was Jimmy’s idea to go ahead and carry on anyway, and he said it took a little while before his staff realised he wasn’t joking and intended to do the show that way! Jimmy suggested that Ryan do his show through a soup can and string … and Ryan said they may be doing that shortly:
And, would you believe it, a short time later Ryan and Ellen were broadcasting live from the road as they made a crazy dash through LA traffic to the Burbank office because with almost unbelievable comedy timing, the studio computers had failed. This was the funniest thing I’ve heard on the show for a while! As a fan of the old Radio 1 Roadshows, I’ve often wished Ryan and his crew would take their show on the road, but I never meant it quite so literally.
After they made it to Burbank, fortunate to be in one piece from the sound of it, Ellen said it was interesting to see what people picked up when they left in a hurry. Corinne takes a sharpie and highlighter, Dennis all his paperwork and backpack, Ellen grabbed her water and Ryan took his coffee, which didn’t have a lid. The sound quality obviously suffered while Ryan was talking from the car, but it didn’t matter. Content is most definitely still king.
Jimmy accepted full responsibility, but had a reassuring word or two for Ryan:
I am so sorry Ryan. Had I known I was infectious, I would not have called. Fortunately, hair gel is a natural antibiotic @RyanSeacrestless than a minute ago via webJimmy Kimmel jimmykimmel
Ryan hosted the social media suite part of CNN and Larry King Live’s Disaster in the Gulf telethon, talking to some of the celebrities taking calls from donors and telling people how to interact via social media. During the broadcast, the telethon’s hashtag was in the worldwide trending topics and @ryanseacrest was the most retweeted account on twitter, which hopefully means @bing donated the full 100k!
Ryan Seacrest: Retweet this & @Bing will donate $10 to @CNN’s Gulf Telethon up to$100K. More at http://bit.ly/howtodonate.#BingforGulf
photo: @sadaoturner
One question that celebrities said people were raising on calls and social media was why do people need to donate when BP have set aside funds, which is something Ryan and Larry discussed on Ryan’s radio show yesterday too: the aim was to raise money that could go to helping people straight away, because it can take a long time to cut through bureaucracy to get money to the people who need it.
Brian Douglas from WKRQ Q102 Cincinnati asked Ryan how he manages his crazy workload and when he sleeps. Ryan doesn’t know and he doesn’t sleep …
They also talked about working in radio, Ryan’s operatic background, American Idol auditions and did some quick word associations (well, that was the idea!) I think this is one of the best videos I’ve seen so far from Cincinnati.
Ryan spoke with Regina Russo from FOX19 about his visit to Cincinnati Opera and American Idol.
video: @FOX19Regina [Regina Russo/FOX19]
Regina started out asking about Ryan’s appearance at an opera event; not the genre of music he’s well-known for:
Ryan: This is as authentic as you can get when it comes to a music experience. Because the style of music, the style of delivery, the structure; this is authenticity, this is purity, and all great artists should have some of that and experience that. I think it’s important.
The discussion turned to American Idol, and Ryan talked a little about Dick Clark:
Ryan: He would set the stage for performances and performers, and then just back away and let them do their thing. I think that’s a great role and if I can be the mini him, then perfect.
Ryan’s been leaving people with such a great impression in Cincinnati that they’re taking to twitter to tell the world how great he is:
Wrapped up my interview with Ryan Seacrest. In case you're wondering, just as charming, intelligent, generous and charismatic in personless than a minute ago via webRegina Russo FOX19Regina
Regina had an exclusive interview with Ryan for FOX19 about being in town to help Cincinnati’s Opera celebrate its 90th anniversary: Ryan Seacrest: This is Cincinnati Opera!
Ryan was asked by WCPO/ABC 9 how he as a pop guy came to be hosting Cincinnati Opera’s 90th Anniversary Gala.
Ryan: I think I’m the obvious choice! You act like I’m not the obvious choice to host this 90th anniversary of the Opera here at Music Hall …
Answering the question more seriously, Ryan said he was invited, he felt honoured by the invitation, and he thought it would be fun and different for him.
Ryan was asked if he’s an opera fan. He said he’s an opera student: “I’ve tried to sing it before and it didn’t go well.” Oh he is SUCH a tease! How can he talk about singing opera without giving us a demonstration! That needs a Finish the Lyric special edition.
The conversation turned to American Idol with Ryan being asked who’s going to replace Simon, and who he would like to replace Simon.
Ryan: I would like to see someone much younger replace Simon, because there was such a generation gap between the two of us. I could never understand if he was insulting me or not.
Ryan said a decision on Simon’s replacement hasn’t been made, as far as he knows.
Ryan will host Cincinnati Opera’s 90th Anniversary Gala Concert this evening. The show starts at 8pm and tickets are available via the Cincinnati Opera Box Office (513) 241-2742 and online:
TV and radio personality Ryan Seacrest is scheduled to serve as special guest host for Cincinnati Opera’s Saturday, June 19 Gala Concert at Music Hall. Seacrest, who is best-known as the host of the highly-rated American Idol, will appear in person at Music Hall for the celebratory event. “Ryan Seacrest is one of the finest and best loved television hosts,” said Cincinnati Opera’s Artistic Director Evans Mirageas. “His work on American Idol is inspiring, and his personal passion for music is clear. We’re thrilled that he’ll be joining us to lead our anniversary celebration.” [ More… ]
The event features performances from Christine Brewer, Angela Brown, Hei-Kyung Hong, Denyce Graves, Richard Leech, Antonello Palombi, Russell Thomas and David Michael and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra will be led by Edoardo Müller, Steven Reineke and Henri Venanzi. Ryan’s co-hosts will be Carol Neblett and Sherrill Milnes.
Nine decades of passion and romance, exhilaration and magic, delight and longing. World-class singers, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the powerful Cincinnati Opera Chorus, led by renowned conductors. Lavish costumes, breathtaking sets, and evocative lighting.
This is Cincinnati Opera.
Come celebrate our 90th birthday.
It appears to be a slight departure from Ryan’s usual hosting gigs but the repertoire looks to be quite accessible as it includes performances from some very well known operas and songs that have crossed over into popular culture through film and television. If you’re lucky enough to go, let us know if Ryan actually does open it with This is Cincinnati Opera!
Cue Seacrest. “Word got out that Ryan was in the building, and the daughters wanted to meet him. They noticed him right away,” says our source. “Which was arranged. Ryan invited the whole family to a future taping of American Idol, which they were over the moon about.
That sounds great, but it’s odd that Ryan didn’t mention it himself when he described the scene at Mozza and him trying to figure out who was at the restaurant, or that he didn’t know which of the girls was there with the First Lady.
So was Ryan playing coy when he related the story? Does he have a really bad memory? Or did the insider not get all the facts straight?
According to Ryan’s own website, this is what happened:
News spread quickly Monday night when First Lady Michelle Obama and her massive security detail ventured into the sister restaurant next door to where Ryan was eating dinner. While Mrs. Obama was with one of her daughters (not sure if it’s Sasha or Malia) grabbing pizza at Pizzeria Mozza, Ryan was breaking bread with co-workers at Osteria Mozza.
After a change to his original plans that he described in a hilarious story on his radio show yesterday, Ryan attended game seven of the NBA finals between the Lakers and Celtics at the Staples Center yesterday evening.
Ryan was photographed with Jeffrey Katzenberg, Khloé Kardashian and Usher and tweeted out a photo of George Lopez.
Ryan tweeted another photo out with 13 seconds to go before the Lakers won, calling it an insane game. Hopefully we’ll hear about it on his radio show later today!
Next Monday CNN will broadcast a two-hour telethon Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help as a Larry King Live Special to raise funds for three charities working to rebuild the Gulf Coast.
United Way provides emergency assistance to families facing financial, education or health problems as a result of the oil spill; The National Wildlife Federation is looking for funding to aid their work recovering wildlife and their ecosystems; and The Nature Conservancy is looking at long term conservation and recovery along the Gulf of Mexico.
Ryan will be hosting from the “Tweet Suite”, as he did for the Haiti telethon which raised $5 million. Ryan explained on the radio that although systems are being put in place for longer term aid, it’s important to raise money that can be used to provide immediate relief.
As well as talking about the telethon on his radio show, Ryan put a call out on twitter for celebrities who want to participate.
The Larry King Live website has a long list of celebrities who have already signed up: Chelsea Handler, Sting, Tim McGraw, Kathy Griffin, Alyssa Milano, Deepak Chopra, Pete Wentz, Ted Danson, Robert Redford, Harry Connick Jr., Jenny McCarthy, Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, Aaron Neville, Kerry Kennedy, James Carville and Mary Matalin, Anderson Cooper, Tyson Ritter, Lenny Kravitz, Ian Somerhalder, Edward James Olmos and Philippe Cousteau.
Disaster in the Gulf: How You Can Help will air on Monday, 21st June on CNN starting at 8pm ET.
In a feature on Emmy-worthy reality television hosts in The Envelope ahead of The Emmy nominations next month, Ryan was asked about his biggest faux pas, his pre-show rituals, which other show he’d like to host, and who he thinks is the greatest host of all time.
Ryan said his biggest faux pas was his hair colour in the first season of American Idol, though some of his wardrobe choices seemed to be on his mind too. At least his hair colour was memorable; people still describe him as blond!
Apparently not so superstitious, Ryan didn’t own up to any pre-show rituals, saying instead that he prefers to go live from a conversation or time making out with his Blackberry sending email from his Blackberry so he doesn’t have time to get nervous.
There’s only one place Ryan could go after the glitz and glam of American Idol: out into the wilds.
I’m a natural for “Survivor.” I think when people see me in the suits and on that shiny floor, they think I look out of place and that I should be in the wilderness for months eating bugs from a pan.
I can totally see that. I can see Ryan trying bugs if they’re served up at a nice restaurant; out in the wilderness for more than an hour or two, well, I’m happy he was joking.
The question that caused Ryan the most difficulty was who’s the greatest host of all time, but he narrowed it down to five: Larry King, Dick Clark, Merv Griffin, Johnny Carson and Regis Philbin.
Ryan was very excited to talk to Carlos Bocanegra in a hot-tub in South Africa. Sadly, there was no video and it was Carlos in the hot-tub anyway, so not really of much interest to us! In one of the interviews that makes us wonder how on earth people get the idea Ryan is gay, he asked probing questions about the hot-tub, who was in there with him … unfortunately for Ryan’s line of questioning it was guys not girls, but Ryan wasn’t deterred and continued to talk about the guys in the hot tub, and was even thinking about the music they might be listening to, after the call ended.
They talked a little about the football, soccer, fußball, whatever you want to call it, including the match against England and butterfingers the goalie. If you didn’t see the match, or aren’t following the World Cup, here’s the best recap I’ve come across:
Ryan also looked ahead to tomorrow’s match against Slovenia and talked about some of the requests different teams have made, the atmosphere in South Africa and the vuvuzelas. Team USA wants Internet, so Ryan said he needed to get Steve Balmer back on the phone after speaking to him eariler this week for a little help with Office 2010.
Ryan talked about a great idea for a new reality show today after having dinner with Larry King and his buddies yesterday. Ryan said Larry and Co. are hysterical, and if they’d let him, he’d produce a show with them just sitting at a table, with maybe a different guest each time, talking about whatever it is they talk about … which could be anything! Ryan thinks that would be the most entertaining show.
I have to agree, it does sound entertaining! Not quite as good an idea as the Ryan-Randy-Simon house he’s talked about before, but definitely right up there.
Ryan spoke with Chris Harrison, Mike Fleiss and Steve McPherson on his radio show today, and got an offer to be the new Bachelor. What do you think? Should he clear his schedule?
Here’s a video of Julianne Hough at the CMA Music Fest. The interviewer talks about rumours, then asks if the one about Ryan is true. She doesn’t answer, but she does say he’s a great guy.
Ryan got a major diss from Celtics player Rasheed Wallace yesterday! On his radio show this morning, Ryan related a funny story of going to the gym at the hotel where the Celtics are staying, getting in the elevator with them, and being ‘recognised’.
Wallace: Aren’t you the guy on TV?
Ryan: Yeah …
Wallace: You do that show, right?
Ryan: Yep. You watch?
Wallace: Hey guys, he hosts Starsearch!
Ouch! Ryan talked to some people who said the guy knew who Ryan was and was just trash talking him! Ryan should have put him in his place …
The rumours about Ryan and Julianne Hough stepped up a notch today as photographs of the two of them together surfaced. According to Pop Sugar, Ryan and Julianne were walking with friends, including a very cute four-legged friend, on Malibu Beach.
Ryan’s mom holds her bag away from Ryan so he can’t go snorkeling
Ryan let slip on today’s radio show that he knows his way around a purse. With his vast experience in ladies’ handbags, he stated with absolute confidence that they smell like gum.
Ellen K, who should know more about the subject than Ryan, readily agreed … then wanted to know whose bag Ryan had been sniffing!
Ellen and Ryan were talking about the KIIS FM Purse Party on June 18th, and Ryan’s going to talk more about purses on tomorrow’s radio show with fellow expert Casey James. These boys are versatile!
According to reports on TMZ and E! Online, Ryan’s stalker has been given a maximum two year state prison sentence with an order to stay at least 500 yards away from Ryan and his workplaces for 10 years.
TMZ:
Ryan Seacrest’s stalker — 26-year-old Chidi Uzomah — was sentenced to two years in prison today — after pleading no contest to felony stalking back in March.
In addition to the sentence, the judge ordered Chidi to stay clear of Ryan for 10 years. By then, Ryan will own L.A. and can keep anyone out himself.
E! Online:
Chidi Benjamin Uzomah Jr., the 26-year-old former Army reservist turned E! HQ bum rusher will serve the maximum sentence—two years in state prison—for stalking Ryan Seacrest.
The judge also issued a protective order at today’s sentencing requiring Uzomah Jr. to stay at least 500 yards away from Seacrest and any of his ever-multiplying workplaces for a whopping 10 years.
Kourtney and Khloé take Miami 2 premiers this Sunday on E! so the girls called in to Ryan’s studio to talk about Kourtney’s boyfriend Scott, which is entertaining because Khloé seems to think he’s a complete waste of space and doesn’t bother to hide her feelings. Conversation moved on to Lamar, so Ryan quizzed Khloé about her sex life before moving on to waxing: Khloé let Kourtney take care of her waxing, or shrubbery control as Ryan calls it, despite it having ended badly the last time she let Kourtney loose with wax.
From the clips we’ve seen so far, it looks like this is going to be another explosive season! There is more information, preview clips and goodies on the Kourtney & Khloé take Miami website; you can even tweet live with Kourtney and Khloé as you watch!
Watch Kourtney & Khloé take Miami 2 at 10/9c tonight on E!
We’ve been taking a look at the changes in Ryan’s popularity in search engine searches over the last month, along with what people have been searching for.
Searches for “Ryan Seacrest” over the last month
The tallest peak on the graph falls around the American Idol finale, with searches about the finale and Ryan’s comments to Simon Cowell, with the lesser peak to its left falling just after Wango Tango, the Shrek Forever After press conference, a wave of speculation about Ryan and Julianne Hough, and reports of Ryan suggesting Justin Bieber as a replacement for Simon Cowell. The increase at the end of the graph relates to new speculation about Ryan and Julianne Hough, and his presence in Nashville this weekend.
Rising “Ryan Seacrest”-related searches this month
The Top 40, Ryan’s radio show, and Ryan’s height, have been popular searches in previous months but are rising relatively as searches for American Idol reduce. Who Ryan is dating has been a regular search topic, but the specific question of whether Ryan is dating Julianne Hough is on the increase.
Canada and the United States have made the most searches, with the United Kingdom a long way behind but searching enough to register. Google has categorised the majority of searches for Ryan Seacrest as relating to Entertainment.
Over the last 30 days, we have seen a similar increase in searches for Julianne Hough on this website. Other notable increases in our internal site searches are Ryan’s stomach, diet, trainer, detox, legs, skinny body and juices (there’s a definite theme here … Ryan’s summer body campaign seems to be working!); is Ryan going to do Eclipse readings; Christopher Bailey and Burberry; Kathy Griffin on Ryan’s radio show; On-Air with Ryan Seacrest’s Malaysian launch, and Ellen’s homework topics.
The images in this article are snapshots taken today; you can see the trends as they change on the Ryan Seacrest Search Insights page.
There were lots of sightings of Ryan watching Julianne Hough at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville last night. Ryan reportedly signed a guitar at the event, watched Julianne at LP Field, and left with Julianne on her golf cart.
Some of the sightings on twitter have been added to the Headlines section.
An article by Don Barrett at LARadio.com speculating about the possibility of Ryan moving from Clear Channel to CBS is getting a lot of coverage around the web. The article seems to be based on three things:
Ryan’s Clear Channel contract is up for renewal in November
Ryan told the LA Times last month that he’s going to leave a job this year
Ryan was photographed recently talking to CBSCEO LEs Moonves at a Lakers game
In addition to this, it refers back to LARadio’s earlier claim that if Ryan is no longer on American Idol, it could affect his negotiating power at KIIS. Don Barrett connects these dots, adds in Ryan’s earlier attempt at a daytime talkshow, and comes up with the interesting idea of Ryan taking his radio show to CBS and getting another daytime TV show, adding some of the factors that might make this appealing for Ryan.
I haven’t read much conjecture yet about whether this move would complement or clash with Ryan’s current agreements with Comcast, where he reportedly has a contract until 2012 or American Idol, for which he has a contract that includes some kind of collaboration and primetime exclusivity with CKX.
Ryan has had a lot of success with E!, both as on screen talent and through his production company. His morning radio show has ties with E! News, and his production company seems to be expanding from the pure entertainment end of reality and into shows with substance, relevance and more mainstream appeal, so I think more than just the radio show would need to change for this idea to play out.
Who knows what will happen! It’s definitely intriguing even if I can’t see how the pieces would fit together at this point (and we probably can’t even see half the pieces!). I love Ryan’s radio show, so I hope it continues … though I wouldn’t say no to a little less music and a lot more talk!
What do you think? Leave a comment or join us in the Ryan Seacrest Fan Forum to speculate away.
Miley Cyrus was live in Ryan’s studio for this morning’s On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about her new music, her new video, and her love life.
Ryan started out by asking Miley about her trip to Europe, and whether there’s less fuss about how provocative her new material is because people are a little more liberal. Miley said that people ask about the reactions in America and laugh because it’s really not that big a deal.
Ryan had an exclusive TV interview with Miley recently where she had said the video for Can’t Be Tamed wasn’t about trying to be sexy; Miley said that it’s not so much wanting someone to watch the video and admire the girl or the outfits, but to appreciate the concept and maybe get something out of it, like watching a short film.
Ryan asked Miley about the other tracks on her new album. She mentioned Every Rose has its Thorn, which led to an impromptu line or two from Ryan, which was an unexpected treat that Miley clearly enjoyed too. She talked about Liberty Walk, which is for women who are in abusive relationships.
Still on the subject of music, Ryan thought that Miley was picking a fight with him because she said recently that she doesn’t listen to any pop music. Miley confirmed she doesn’t really listen to pop, but she likes Lady Gaga and talked about how talented she is. She isn’t a fan of Glee either, but said she’s heard great things about it.
There’s been a rumour that Miley will play Carrie in a prequel to Sex and the City. Miley has heard the rumours too, but hasn’t been approached. She’s a big fan, so if she’s asked she would be interested.
Ryan asked about Miley’s boyfriend saying they appear to be going strong so what’s the down side. Miley told him there isn’t one, but Ryan thought she might be the type of person who’d be waiting for something to go wrong. They’ve been together over a year; she was cautious at first and she knows he could go back to Australia, but he’s an awesome friend and she even listens to his advice. Ryan wanted to know, what if he does go back to Australia. Miley hesitated a second then said, “I like Australia!”
Miley’s single is out now and her new album is out on June 22nd and she is doing a secret show on June 21st. Ryan complimented Miley on the talented woman she’s becoming, so Miley complimented Ryan too … on the beautiful mature woman he’s becoming.
Ryan Seacrest is the most influential television host in LA according to a power grid drawn up by Los Angeles Confidential magazine and Mediaite.
The ranking is based on a number of metrics including total TV viewers, for which Ryan ranks first with 7,500,000, with 50% more viewers than the second most powerful TV host, and twitter where Ryan leads with almost 3 million followers at the time of the survey. Ryan ranked third for web buzz, the number of hits on google, and blog buzz, which is the number of mentions, and fourth for the number of results on google news.
Mediaite explains that these rankings are different because their algorithm takes “metrics such as Google hits, Twitter influence, and amount of airtime on major television networks” into account as well as more traditional methods of determining influence, and they state that the information will change in real time to reflect current events: The Power Grid Explained
Ryan has to wear make-up most days because he’s on TV, but that doesn’t mean he likes it. Apparently it causes the skin to sweat and clogs the pores, and facials are the way to combat it. Ryan doesn’t go in for a normal facial, of course, he goes through the human car wash!
Some people go through far worse than a car wash in the name of beauty.
At least we know Ryan would never be seen out with a gold face!
Moving swiftly on … Ryan explained what happened while he was sitting in this car wash with the windows down. It’s actually called the Lancer Process, after Dr Harold Lancer, and Ryan said you might see other celebrities there, naming a few including Victoria Beckham, Shakira, Denise Richards, which Ellen pointed out are all girls. Ryan said he doesn’t see any other dudes there, but knows David Beckham goes too.
Ryan doesn’t know exactly what happens while his eyes are closed, but first they put a sandblaster on his face, then rub dry ice over his forehead. A red light comes on, and then there are lotions, glosses, shines, cottons, and all kinds of things. At the other end he’s blown dry, and he has a glow that takes years off him.
He asked Ellen if she could see that and she hedged, saying maybe a year. Ryan thinks guys should try a facial, or exfoliate at home, if their skin is looking a bit tired. He said now it’s as if he’s Bieber’s brother, or he should be on Nickelodeon, or get carded. Ellen realised at this point she needed to go a little younger than a year, so congratulated Ryan on his Zac Effron-like glow.
There’s trouble in paradise … Ryan and Ellen have gone their separate ways on a very important subject. It’s something that’s been a bond between them from the moment they met, and now Ryan’s just walked away.
He’s swapped his coffee for this …
Ryan said the juices have stopped him craving coffee. The big question now is, will it last?
Russell Brand found some new friends while he was visiting Ryan’s offices earlier this week: life sized cardboard cutouts of Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Russell apparently made off with these essential Twilight Series reading props, and took them with him on a tour of the E! building.
E! Building’s crack security detail apprehended Russell … but he told them the radio staff had said it was okay, so that was fine and security let Russell and his hostages go. They don’t look too upset about it, but let’s hope Russell doesn’t try to run off with Ryan next time!
Ryan interviewed Kathy on his radio show today. They both agreed it was a momentous occasion, right before Kathy welcomed Ryan to his first week and wished him luck on the show. Ryan wanted to know if that meant she’d never listened, to which Kathy said she’d listened to as many of Ryan’s shows as he’d watched her life on the D List. Or ‘da list’ as Ryan called it earlier in the show. Ryan said he loved her show, but couldn’t name an episode when Kathy called him out on that, but did recall watching her making fun of him for 7 minutes. Kathy said that was a special, taking the link in to pimp her new special Kathy Griffin does the bible belt, in which there’s what she called an homage to Ryan. Ryan pointed out his importance in her career, “technically you’re saying that I deserve a little bit of credit for your success,” but Kathy clarified, “No. I’m saying you’re out to get me.”
Kathy believes that Ryan, along with Oprah, is conspiring to kill her. Ryan wanted to know why, so Kathy listed a few bits of evidence. One time an air conditioning repair man turned up at her house. She’s sure Ryan sent him because he was brandishing a head shot of Ryan, saying “I’ve just been at this man’s house, do you know him?” Kathy said Ryan carries headshots around with him, which Ryan confirmed, adding that he gives them out whenever people come around to his house, at the airport, wherever, and tells them to deliver that line. With Ryan in such an agreeable mood, Kathy pushed him to admit to sending the man to get her, then fell into Ryan’s trap when he disagreed:
Kathy: What about when you call Oprah and you have those late night conversations with Jamie Oliver?
Ryan: You do follow me! Thank you!
Stalker Kathy: I know everything about you.
Moving swiftly on … the next story was hilarious! Kathy was doing a photoshoot in high heels and a tutu and was just stepping into a portapotty outside her home when Ryan pulled up in his car, and rolled down the window to talk to her, but in a way that meant nobody but her saw it was him. She said it was like a backwards weird James Bond villain moment, and after he’d gone she was pointing, like Children of the Corn, and noone believed her. That he’s trying to kill her! Kathy went back to Ryan’s mysterious conversations with Oprah, and told a story about going onto the Ellen DeGeneres Show and being warned off making fun of Ryan because Ellen loves him. Ryan loved that! Kathy said she’d never been told what not to say anywhere else.
The next topic of conversation was Kathy’s book. Lots of celebrities have an entry in the index, mostly with a page number. Ryan asked if it was under Seacrest, Kathy replied, “no, it’s under dbag!” before confirming it’s under Seacrest. Ryan read out his index entry: Not mentioned once in book, suck it.
Shrek has just had its third week as top at the box office. Kathy commented that Ryan had really carried the movie, asking him how many lines he had. Ryan told her it was 7 though they only used 3 and played a quick sound bite of his lovely son Butter Pants. Kathy, also in the movie, talked about being at a photoshoot with Ryan and said that when Cameron Diaz walked in Ryan greeted her, without irony, “what’s up Holmes?”
Kathy went on to explain why she guns for Ryan so much: number one, you’re ridiculous and number two you’re so well known, you’re so much a part of the lexicon … pausing briefly to explain to Ryan what lexicon means … Ryan asked for Zeitgeist while they were at it. He’d apparently pretended not to know what the word ‘ubiquitous’ meant one time before. Ellen said Ryan uses it a lot, so Kathy asked for a definition. Ryan: thank you very much, Webster.
Ryan thought he might be old material by now, but Kathy called him the gift that keeps on giving. Ryan asked if it had ever occurred to her that he’d say things in front of her intentionally. Not so much. The conversation turned to game night with the Kutchers, which Ryan said he doesn’t do, but he said he went to brunch. Kathy found the idea of brunch with Ryan and Ashton was insufferable, but said it might be fun to be the gay waiter listening in on the conversation.
On the subject of Ryan’s love life, Kathy was subtle and reserved: who are you dating? You’re not really banging Julianne Hough … that’s not even possible. Ellen said she’s way out of his league. Ryan agreed it was impossible and she’s out of his league, adding why would she even return a call. Oh poor Ryan. Still, he shouldn’t give up hope … he just needs to remember the story he told recently on his show about the guy and the girl who’s well out of his league…
Kathy also wanted to know if Ryan’s still hooking up with Ben Silverman, but Ryan’s over him now he’s left the network. The topic returned back to Julianne several times after Kathy dodged Ryan’s penetrating questions about her personal life by asking about his, though she did talk briefly about her marriage, which ended badly, saying the joke’s on her because she had a tattoo for a wedding ring.
Ryan liked the idea of going to see Kathy live, after she mentioned he could go and see her version of her visit to his studio, but Kathy said he’d have to be in disguise because people would feel uncomfortable and he’d get sympathy from the crowd, which would make her uncomfortable. Ryan said he’d go, but it might take him two years to schedule it in with his workload!
Ryan interviewed his BFF Kathy on his radio show today. I haven’t listened to it yet because the online feed was offline for most of the show, but from the short clips I heard I’m looking forward to the podcast!
On his radio show earlier today, Ryan talked with Christopher Bailey, chief creative officer at Burberry and winner of the 2010 CFDA International Award, about the suits he custom made for Ryan for American Idol and the red carpets, plus a pair of Burberry Pajamas he received as a gift from Ellen K.
Ryan sounds really tactile, talking about the way fabrics rub against his skin, and said he sounds like a child or a big girl when he emails Christopher, saying things like “dude, I just love the way these suits feel.” Sewed into Ryan’s suits are the words “To Ryan from Christopher Bailey”, which Ellen thinks makes them potential museum pieces and Ryan apparently uses to throw every artist that comes on the show off balance by asking them, “do you want to see inside my suit?” Smooth!
There was a bit of mutual love as Christopher called Ryan a great ambassador for their suits, saying it’s a proud moment when they see him wearing them, and Ryan talked about Christopher transforming the image of Burberry, saying it had been iconic for ever but Christopher has made it more relevant.
On the topic of his pajamas, Ryan told Christopher, “you have no idea how that fabric tickles me” … but Christopher did as he wears them too! Ryan then called them a crowd pleaser, saying that you put them on when you have a house guest and people want to take them. Ryan seemed to think for a second that it’s odd how much he talks about his sleepwear, but continued on saying he’s bummed when they’re in laundry circulation. Christopher said he’d send Ryan another pair, which Ryan readily agreed to, saying he thought he might have lent his other pair to someone, but luckily for Ryan, and sadly for us, Christopher didn’t go there.

Ryan and Matt got their groove on with Bust a Move! Have to say, Matt’s vocal could use some work, and he lost his timing, but Ryan killed it as usual…
Ryan totally needs to be a guest on Glee. He should take his special gift and show them what it’s all about.
Ryan’s making it a happy Saturday for lucky fans of LA Sparks or Seattle Storm, tweeting: tweeps, i got tix for u if ur in LA - vip courtside to @SeattleStorm vs. @LA _Sparks tonight 8p at @HomeDepotCenter, thx to @Bing. Hit me up. Judging by the responses on twitter, there are a lot of people who are hoping to get their hands on those tickets!
Kathy Griffin appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show, and couldn’t resist sharpening her claws on Ryan after advising Jimmy that the way to win a twitter war is to enlist the Justin Beiber Army.
So sweet that Ryan’s never far from her heart and mind; she must love him nearly as much as we do! Talking of sweet, Anderson Cooper should never have let her out of that cake …
Ryan tweeted a photo of him with the Kardashians, saying he’d just wrapped up a meeting and there’s fun stuff coming next Sunday, which is when the Kourtney and Khloé take Miami season 2 premiere airs on E! at 10/9c.
You can get more information about Kourtney and Khloé take Miami season 2 on the E! website and sneak peek clips on Ryan’s YouTube channel
Russell Brand was on Ryan’s radio show today, and although he was up early for Ryan in more ways than one, he was definitely on form with an opening “Ryan, I’m already aroused!” in response to Ryan’s warning about their unbelievable chemistry and the way the conversation was likely to go … the direction of a happy trail.
It’s Russell’s birthday today and he’s going to celebrate by looking at clouds, spelling his name wistfully in sand, and indulging in the ancient art of lovemaking … though he seemed to have forgotten his movie is out today until Ryan reminded him! The conversation turned to Russell’s chemistry with Jonah Hill, and the hilariarse Sean P Diddy Combs. Ryan addressed the issue of Russell’s shirt on The Today Show, but Russell blamed it on Meredith’s hankering for his nipples.
Ryan’s toy today seems to be playing one half of a couple a clip of something their other half said about them, so he played back Katy’s description of Russell as being like ‘Oscar Wilde meets Dudley Moore meets Jim Morison meets a little Elvis Presley meets Charles Manson’, which Russell seemed to find touching, then asked about her no longer being in Get him to the Greek (Katy shot a cameo which wasn’t used). Russell explained that it was because her acting was so atrocious it ruined the movie … Ryan thought Katy may have been there listening to Russell, but he doesn’t let her sleep in the bed with him because she’s too much trouble! Just to remind us how many stars have been on his show talking about Get him to the Greek, Ryan talked about Judd Apatow saying he wouldn’t travel more than 8 miles to Russell’s wedding. Not deterred, Russell will make sure he’s there if he has to drug him and kidnap him.
Ryan and Russell will meet up next week to talk about a documentary Russell is making with Oliver Stone about the phenomena of fame and the search for happiness. Russell’s looking forward to seeing Ryan in person so they can express themselves in words and fluids. Ryan queried his involvement in the documentary, so Russell called Ryan ‘the face of contemporary fame’ and ‘the inner thigh of celebrity’. Ryan told Russell he’d see him and his thighs next week; Russell replied, “yes you will, I’m going to grip you with them!” Ryan’s apparently looking forward to it, commenting to Ellen “I gotta tell you, he’s awesome!” after Russell was off the line.
Ryan and Russell are hilarious together! Wait … is Russell on the never-ending list of people who are taking Simon Cowell’s vacated seat on Idol? It’d be a brave person who’d sign that off, but it’d certainly make for great entertainment!
Ryan said this morning that it hurts to drink his coffee! Not content with his juice drinks and trapeze, Ryan did a session with Tracy Anderson as research for a show his production company is working on. Ryan said he looked as if he was in a music video, but uncoordinated, as he worked muscle groups he didn’t know he had.
Never mind getting his summer body, there’s going to be nothing left of Ryan the way he’s going! If you’re not familiar with Tracy Anderson, here’s a video from one of her bootcamps.
I couldn’t quite follow Ryan’s description of his muscle movements. He really ought to post video of that …
Ryan said on his radio show this morning that his back’s a little sore today because he was doing some trapeze last night! Ellen was a little skeptical, but Ryan explained it’s one of the way’s he’s working on his summer body. Ryan said he suspends his own body weight and raises his legs but isn’t doing tricks or going upside down. Ellen asked Ryan if he swings, but he just left us hanging.
Also on today’s show was Aziz Ansari talking about this weekends MTV Awards, a Ryan’s Roses call, Ryan and Ellen giving out advice on climbing mountains, and talk about work attire and Amy’s unique method of getting ready.
Ever wondered what Ryan thinks about when he’s goes to the bathroom? If you have it’s your lucky day, because on Ryan’s radio show this morning, we got a little insight!
Jack Nicholson was in Ellen’s sleaze, prompting Ryan to relate a story about bumping into him at a recent Lakers game. There was a queue for the bathroom, but Jack was a nice guy and let Ryan go first … so Ryan was in there thinking that Jack was listening to him pee! Jack probably had that thought too, which is why he let Ryan go first …
This season’s American Idols appeared on Larry King Live yesterday. Larry played the clip of Ryan facing down Simon Cowell to get some useful feedback for Michael Lynche. He asked Michael about his reaction, then asked Lee if Ryan is the glue that holds everything together.
KING: Mike, frankly, how much of that was play?
LYNCHE: I — I — I was in shock of it. I was like is this really going on the first night on the big stage, you know? But Ryan genuinely cares for us and loves on us. I don’t think he wants anybody to talk bad about us or say anything that’s not — he knows how hard we’re working. Ryan is the best.
KING: Lee, is he the glue?
DEWYZE: To the show? He has a lot to do with the success of the show. Because what he does is he brings everything to the show. He brings humor. He brings, you know, the level of suspense that we all get. He’s been doing it for so long. He is a pro at it. To replace him would be impossible. I mean, he knows what he’s doing.
Ryan’s talking about his weekend on the radio show today: listen live
Ryan talked about getting judged at the store buying stuff for a bbq yesterday. His folks had left town and although he’d been invited to some bbqs, he decided to stay home … the woman at the check out was judging his food and then asked if he hadn’t been invited anywhere, making him feel like a loser who had no friends.
Then he posted this picture. Please. She was NOT checking out the food!
