Apparently Ryan makes a habit of talking people down! I can understand Wanda Sykes wanting to leave showbiz after such a dramatic incident; Ryan must be a real sweet-talker.

Anyone who follows news about Ryan and Idol can’t have missed the increasingly exaggerated stories about Ryan and Crystal Bowersox over the last couple of weeks (it’s been a hot topic on the fan forum), but unsurprisingly the truth is a little less dramatic. Ryan said he and Crystal had a laugh about it, and she’s still there because she’s fantastic.

Ryan recently interviewed Bill and Melinda Gates about their charitable work for Idol Gives Back. Bill reassured people that the money donated goes right to where it’s needed.

In an Extra interview with Terri Seymour, Simon Cowell said that the whole Larry King Live interview was uncomfortable, and Ryan couldn’t get out of there fast enough because he knew Simon was angry with him.

ABC news has posted a video “Ryan Seacrest: Bizarre Behavior or Fun?” Whether you think it was bizarre or fun, people are still talking about the show a week later, so Ryan must be doing something right!
Last week’s show was definitely one of the most entertaining of the season because Ryan was funny and Adam Lambert is a really good mentor. I was surprised just how good, and I’m a fan of Adam. I can understand someone who’d tuned in to the show for the first time thinking Ryan’s comment about Adam’s tongue was a bit risque, mainly thanks to Adam’s reaction, but anyone who watched last year knows that Adam pokes his tongue out when he hits the high notes!
Whether it was innocent or deliberate, the double meaning was hilarious … more so because of Adam and Ryan’s expressions.

Ryan was on Larry King Live yesterday with the American Idol judges to talk about this week’s Idol Gives Back and American Idol.
Larry kicked off by asking Ryan about season nine. Ryan threw a question over to Simon, who started laughing, then told Larry that Simon had reached under his seat and adjusted it seconds before air so it dropped to the floor. Ryan explained why the ratings are down, then Simon called him pompous because he doesn’t talk that that in real life, so Ryan asked him why his shirt is open far enough to be embarrassing to the studio.
Larry explained about which charities will benefit from Idol Gives Back and asked Ryan how the idea came about. Ryan said it was Simon Fuller’s idea and it’s raised more than $140 million so far. Ryan and the judges talked a little about the charities, Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save The Children and the United Nations Foundation, and the different places they’d seen the charities’ work in action.
Ryan explained that the show this week will take place on two stages, one hosted by him and the other Queen Latifah, and listed some of the performers, one of whom is stuck in Europe because Eyjafjallajökull has erupted and closed down air traffic.
The conversation turned to the tension between Ryan and Simon and whether it’s real. Ryan said Simon is a friend, Simon said Ryan is a friend 99% of the time, Kara said they’re like brothers and they love each other, and Larry wanted to know why Simon referred to Ryan as ‘madame’.
Ryan posted a couple of twitpics from the set:

Jump a couple of minutes in to hear Simon talk about Ryan coming over to his trailer for a banana (Ellen needed to clarify what that means in London…) and hint at who he went on a date with.

MTV has put together a video of some of Ryan’s funniest moments from last night’s American Idol, though they seem to think he’s cracking under the stress of his 27 jobs.
Yeah, Ryan Seacrest basically lost his marbles on Tuesday night’s (April 13) “American Idol,” but the guy’s got, like, 19 different jobs in seven separate entertainment mediums, so let’s cut him some slack, OK?
Then again, that was one entertaining meltdown, and we’ve gone ahead and collected some of the highs — or lows? — in the video below.

The show opened with a change of scenery: backstage. Ryan walked between two lines of contestants, explaining the importance of the show:
The next two hours mean the world to these ten people. This spot backstage is the final chance they have to collect themselves.
Simon asked, “are we on camera?” as Ryan, still being serious, continued, “you can literally hear a pin drop.” Well, no, we couldn’t, but we could hear Simon tell Ryan that he and Ellen were making out. Sometimes it seems like he’ll say anything to get Ryan’s attention!

Ryan, apparently seeing a perfect opportunity to get Simon focussed on someone else, even his good buddy, encouraged Simon to give her a kiss. And after asking permission (he’s an old fashioned boy), Simon gave Ellen a peck as Kara and Randy got in on the action and the contestants watched on in bemusement.

Ryan said that once the contestants walk through the doors, which was the audience’s cue to scream and cheer, the atmosphere changes. The spotlights came on, Ryan walked out, the crowd went nuts, and Ryan said, “THIS is American Idol!”
Then Ryan must have had to move quickly, because by the time the opening credits had finished, he was at the top of the stairs of doom ready to scare us all half to death with his descent.

Earlier in the day Ryan said he was going to let everyone know who was taller, him or Bill. Either Bill’s standing on his tiptoes for Ryan’s photo, or he has an inch or two on Ryan.
