Ryan talked about who’s on the New Years Eve show, what Dick Clark looks forward to most, putting rocks in his boots to deal with the cold (wtf!?), expecting a million people in Times Square, and whether Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol. The presenter gave Ryan a birthday cake and Ryan donated a coat to the warm coats appeal.

Ryan’s happy to be part of the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve team but says that Dick Clark prays for really bad weather because he thinks Ryan needs to earn it! No matter how bad the weather gets, it doesn’t sound as though there’s any place Ryan would rather be!

Larry King wished Ryan a belated happy birthday via twitter and pointed out that he’s now eligible to be President!

Hopefully Ryan changed his shirt before filming for E! as he tweeted earlier to say he’d spilled his coffee.

Ryan posted a photo of South Beach to twitpic, tweeting that he was having a 60 minute run before heading to NYC.

He’s certainly racking up the air miles right now! Ryan will be hosting Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest from Times Square in NYC on Thursday evening. The show goes out on ABC between 2200-2300 ET and 2330-0105 ET with live performances from both Times Square and Las Vegas (hosted by Fergie) as well as the countdown and ball drop in Times Square. There’s a further hour of live music from Las Vegas after the NYC broadcast ends.

Dancers, Determination and a Driving Disaster

The episode guide says this week’s show will feature extreme dancers, a woman who wants a car even though she hasn’t passed her driving test, and a determined mom of 50 kids.

The Orange County Register writes that the judges initially thought they’d misheard how many kids Ann Belles has adopted:

“You said you’ve adopted 15 special needs…?” asks panelist Sean Patterson, president of Wilhelmina Models, after Belles is introduced.
“Fifty — 5-0,” Belles corrects him as she explains that she’s asking for money for a new wheelchair-accessible minivan to help get her 13 sons who use wheelchairs to their school and social events.

O.C. mom asks for money from the ‘Bank of Hollywood’ reality show

Last week’s premiere received good reviews and lots of positive feedback via twitter, and it sounds like episode two will be just as good! Ryan tweeted on Saturday to say that they give away $145,625 on this week’s show:

For those of you in the UK … if you didn’t catch Ryan on the American Music Awards via online streaming (or even if you did…) a two-hour broadcast of the show is airing on Viva (the channel that replaced TMF). The show next airs tomorrow (19th December) at 10pm and there is at least one repeat on the 23rd December. You can find Viva on Freeview 21, Sky 358 and Virgin 313.

If you don’t want to watch the whole show, Ryan presented the final category and closed the show.

The first episode of Bank of Hollywood aired on E! in the US this week, and reviews so far seem to be very positive. Some of the comments found on twitter:

Here’s a clip from the first show where a ten-year-old tap dancer tries to impress the judges to fund his trip to the Tap Olympics.

Sounds like the show works really well — hopefully we’ll get to watch it in the UK soon! We can have a look at this week’s contestants as E! has posted video of the casting tapes. The video includes a guy who wants $17,140 for the Miss Gay USofA at Large pageant, a woman asking for $62,995 for her daughter’s commercial pilot training, a kid who needs $8,000 to represent the US in the Tap Olympics, a couple with an odd casting pitch (watch it, you know you want to…) who want $60,000 to get married, a guy who asks for $7,500 to take his mom somewhere fun, a balloon guy (complete with balloon tattoos!) who asks for $12,500 to travel around children’s hospitals with his balloons, a 14 year old boy who wants $125,000 for a pool so he can learn to walk again, and a woman who needs $84,000 to follow Madonna on tour for a year.

According to examiner.com, the balloon guy won $15,000 and kept the secret for seven weeks by telling people that they’d filmed both a winning and a losing shot. TV Eye has a review that includes information about how it went for some of the other contestants: Raiding ‘Bank of Hollywood’

Chelsea Handler asked Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner what Ryan is doing on their card. Kim thought it was embarrassing, asking Kris if she’d even asked Ryan, whereas Kris didn’t think Ryan had noticed, joking that she thought people might think it was Scott (who’s not in the photo).

Ryan tweeted “Watched the rob thomas concert on qantas in flight last night btw A380 the nicest plane I have ever been on. Hello sydney!” Sydney! He’s a long way from home. In reply to someone asking why he’s there, Ryan wrote “Weekend Off!” That’s a pretty cool way to spend a weekend! Ryan was spotted a little time later at North Bondi Italian Food at Bondi Beach.

Ben Stiller has been desperate for Ryan to retweet him for a while. I went to KIIS FM’s Jingle Ball on Saturday, read more to see the photos I took. It was a fabulous event — well worth a 10,000+ mile round trip!

The (free) Jingle Ball Village outside the venue from 2pm until the doors opened for the main event at 6pm included a stage with live acts including the incredible Allison Iraheta, Gossip Girl Leighton Meester and new girl groups The Stunners and The School Gyrls, plus an outside broadcast from Sisanie, fairground rides, and a mini ice skating rink.

Jingle Ball, hosted by the KIIS FM DJs, included sets from Jay Sean, The Ting Tings, Jason Derulo, LMFAO, 3OH!3, Fabolous, Orianthi, Keri Hilson and Taylor Swift.

Any excuse to post one of my favourite photos of Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell … Ellen K mentioned in the sleaze on today’s On-Air with Ryan Seacrest that Simon Cowell is one of Entertainment Weekly’s entertainers of the decade.

Ryan said he’d received an email from a girl called Michelle whose bad skin is ruining her life. Michelle had heard Ryan pay bills for KIIS FM listeners, but she didn’t have the money to pay up front, and therefore wasn’t eligible for the ‘pays your bills’, so she sent an email asking for help getting her skin lasered. Ryan sounded as though he really empathised, and talked to a doctor at Beverly Hills Physicians who is going to diagnose Michelle’s condition and treat her for free! I loved listening to this segment and I think it’s particularly good to hear about an individual getting helped — and to listen to the actual person whose life will hopefully be improved as a result of Ryan’s intervention.
