American Idol 2009: Top 7 Results
Ryan was twittering about preparations before the show:

The only familiar face I’m interested in seeing on Idol is the one heading over to Simon’s trailer.
At the start of the show, Ryan’s the one saying ‘This is American Idol’ AND the tie bar is back. I love how Simon winks at Ryan at the start. This show feels better than yesterday’s already.
Ryan spoke to the contestants asking Adam about Quentin Tarantino and Allison about going to the première of 17again before a VT of the contestants’ visit to the première runs.
Ryan asked Allison to stand first and asked her about the feedback. She was surprised by the comments she’d received and Ryan tells her she is safe. Next Ryan asked Adam to stand and asked him about Simon’s ‘Rocky Horror’ comment … Adam didn’t think it was an insult and asked if Simon meant it as one. Simon shook his head. Anoop’s next on his feet and Ryan tells him he’s in the bottom three.
Jennifer Hudson returns to Idol. After her performance, Ryan asks about her first album and she is still excited about getting a grammy. Ryan talked about her engagement again, but didn’t coax a wedding date out of her.
Ryan asked Anoop about being frustrated by being in the bottom three. Anoop didn’t expect to be sitting there and thought he did a good job yesterday. Paula was a little surprised he was there too, but Simon said he deserved it.
Kris and Lil were the next to stand up. Ryan asked Kris about deciding not to play his guitar and whether that was the right move. Simon butts in: “we didn’t get a chance to talk last night, Kris you were brilliant!” Ryan asked Lil about standing up for herself and whether she feels like she can’t win with the feedback she’s getting. I think she’s been taking public speaking lessons from Paula because I have no idea what she just said. Ryan tried to bluff Kris but he’s safe and Lil joined Anoop in the bottom three.
The last two were Matt and Danny. Ryan asked Matt if he’d have done anything differently in hindsight. Matt said he wouldn’t have tried so hard to make the song his own. Ryan commented that Simon was bored with Danny’s arrangement, but Danny was happy with what he did. Ryan got Danny pretty good with a fake … ah, if only, but it’s Matt in the bottom three.
Ryan asked Paula and Kara if Anoop, Lil and Matt should be the bottom three. Kara said yes and Paula thought each of the three had flaws in their performance, which could be Paula speak for ‘yes’. Ryan sent Anoop back to the safety of the sofa and Miley Cyrus was the next guest to perform pretaped live.
Standing behind Simon, Ryan asked whether they’d use the save tonight? Simon said there’s one they might consider using it on and that person might be surprised by that. Ryan asked if that was Lil, but Simon wouldn’t say. I think he’s talking about Matt who’s got the air of a kicked dog about him. Then Ryan cut to a break … nothing happened, so he gave the cue again. Who was asleep there?!
Lil and Matt joined Ryan centre stage and it’s Matt who got the lowest number of votes. Save time? Kara and Paula were both out of their seats during his performance, after which Ryan pointed out how difficult it was for him to sing at that point. Simon told Matt that he doesn’t have a chance of winning the show, then said it’s good news — they’re using the save.
Because the contestants were looking too happy for his liking, Simon pointed out two pieces of bad news: two of them will leave the show next week …. and it’s disco week. Oh no, Simon, disco week is good news … especially for those of us who like their Adam sparkly! There’s no way he can tone it down next week and I can hardly wait! It could be bad news for some of the contestants though!
