American Idol 2009: Top 9 Results
American Idol starts with a montage of the judges criticising the contestants … cmon, don’t make me wait for Ryan!
Ryan said there were 36 million votes this week for the top 9. Lady Gaga and David Cook will be performing on the show.
After introducing the judges, Ryan asks Randy where the contestants went wrong with song choice and talked about Kara getting heckled (by Megan’s brother). He asked Paula what the other contestants need to do to keep up with Adam and Simon who should leave tonight. Simon said Anoop, Matt and Megan, so maybe I wasn’t as far out of step with the judges’ opinions as I thought last night. Or at least the judge’s opinion I care about.
The top 9 are performing Journey’s “Don’t stop believing”. I read earlier about someone suggesting a Journey themed week, so that made me LOL. Megan sounds better on this song than she did in the live show and Adam looks hot again.
Ryan introduced a film showing a typical week at American Idol with a comment on how intense it all is. For him, too, seeing as he’s working a lot of shows right now.
It gets a little weird at this point with the contestants doing impressions of each other. W. T. F. ! Please Ryan, let’s DO shift gears!
Megan, Matt and Kris are the first to stand and Ryan sends them across the stage before sending Adam, Lil and Allison to centre stage. Scott, Danny and Anoop go to the near side of the stage. Did Ryan just say one of these groups is the bottom three? Surely the top three are spread across the three groups, so maybe each has one of the bottom three … Megan, Allison and Anoop?
The people in the chat room where I’m watching this online are obsessed with who’s gay (all of them, so far, I think). It’s funny that they care so much, but a bit depressing when they say it as if it’s a bad thing.
Ryan brought out a couple of ladies as a surprise for David Cook. Oh wait, the ladies aren’t the surprise, it’s something from 19 Entertainment and RCA records to signify his debut album going platinum with over a million copies sold.
Kris is safe, which is good, and Ryan quizzes Matt a little before telling him to take a seat … over with Kris. Ryan is so cruel … I love him for making Matt think he was bottom three! So long as he doesn’t do it the other way around, it’s funny. Ryan talks to Megan next and she says she loves Simon but she doesn’t care what Simon said. She’s bottom three. In the next group, Lil is safe and Allison is in the bottom three. Adam’s safe too. Should I wait for Ryan to say that? ;) In the final group, Danny and Scott are safe, so Anoop is bottom three.
Before cutting to break, Ryan asks Simon how many of the three would be worth saving. Simon replies one, and someone shouts out ‘Allison’, which I agree with.
Allison is safe, which is great news, and it’s Megan who’s bottom three. See you, Megan! It’s the right result. Anoop wasn’t at his best this week, but he has had a few good moments and deserves the last chance.
Ryan asked Simon if he would save her, and he answered that she doesn’t care and neither do they! That’s telling her!!
Ryan closes with the info that next year’s theme is songs from the contestants’ birth years. I just googled to see what year Adam Lambert was born and what the top songs were. 1982 is the era of the new romantics and gender benders so I’m hoping we’ll get flamboyant Adam next week, though I’m not even going to dare hope he picks “It’s Raining Men” by The Weather Girls :)
