On his radio show today, Ryan revealed that Simon Cowell had told him to put the date in his diary for the world première … of his new house!

Ryan called up Randy Jackson to talk about the unveiling of Simon’s ‘gaudy, ostentatious, over-the-top’ house, which Randy said Simon had described as ‘slightly larger than The White House’. They decided to go together, no doubt so they could plot ways to annoy Simon!

We’re not clear whether Ryan’s doing the Red Carpet for this première, but hopefully he’ll put a few photos online! After Ryan revealed to his twitter followers that this exclusive event was an ‘open bar’ occasion (Simon’s 165% Scottish, so maybe there’ll be some Drambuie!), we did hope for a little drunk tweeting, but sadly there was nothing more than a post-première tweet to give Simon props for listening to him and Randy.

Ryan needs to get the soundtrack CD from Simon and relive the event for his listeners tomorrow!

Ryan’s looking handsome this evening, but I have to concede Simon’s point about the stairs. It’s hard to watch Ryan make his entrance without thinking about how Adam totally owned them yesterday.

This week Ryan tells us that 47 million votes were cast and asks Simon about yesterday’s show. Simon thought everyone was good after watching it back and he thinks the competition is open. Ryan said that’s good news and it makes it fun. Sure… so long as the right person leaves this evening, it’s fun!

Ryan was looking good in his suit (which he later revealed felt a bit tight … but it looked fine). He was wearing a tie bar …. and so were some of the contestants!

Ryan explained that there were two numbers tonight to make it easier to get through on the phones. Those aren’t the two numbers most of us were hoping for, but c’est la Vie.

Ryan took a call from the mother of an autistic girl who was being bullied at school. The girl had opened up to her mom about the bullying in which another student was throwing rocks at her. Ryan was clearly moved by the story, which he posted to twitter:

During the conversation with the distraught mother, in which she talked briefly about how listening to music on the morning show helped her daughter, Ryan invited both of them to be his guests at Wango Tango. Classy move Ryan … that was a really sweet thing to do.

Y107 are reporting that you can now listen to On Air with Ryan Seacrest weekday afternoons from 3-7pm: Ryan Seacrest joins the Y107 staff!

According to @VegasBill, Ryan was back at XS with Simon and Randy on Saturday.

First thing I do in the morning is check Twitter as Ryan often seems to tweet during the only three or four hours of the day that I’m likely to be asleep, and I think Ryan made a lot of people smile with his sign-off last night:

We could get used to American Idol starting a little earlier with the scene-setting tweets from Ryan:

When the show starts, Ryan’s wearing an attractive grey suit and the tie bar looks a little lower than he’s worn it previously. Slightly random comment but my eyes wandered there often enough that I have to say … I love the cut of the pants he was wearing; particularly the lower leg.

There are several reports that Ryan’s at the Lakers game, sitting next to Jeff Probst.

Ryan decided to go to the Britney Spears concert at the Staples Centre on Friday after speaking to Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls and hearing from the girls on his show how good the show was the night before. According to Ryan’s twitter updates over the weekend, it was a good show.

Ryan Seacrest joined Ashton Kutcher and CNN in donating 10,000 mosquito nets following the race to 1,000,000 followers between @aplusk and @CNNBRK.

Ryan made his pledge after speaking with Larry King on this morning's show, new tweeter @oprah added her support a little later:

Talking about American Idol on his radio show this morning, Ryan revealed that he forgot to take the results card with him when he brought the bottom three out to the centre of stage yesterday. He had glanced at the card earlier to see which contestant would be in front of the judges, but hadn’t really memorised the whole thing.

With nobody to ask, Ryan had two choices: walk back to the podium and get the card or go for it and hope he was right. He decided to go for it and sent Anoop to safety, but for a second afterwards he was waiting for a producer to come out shouting that it wasn’t Anoop!

Nice save! I’ll be watching closely to see if there’s any sign of this inner dialogue in Ryan’s eyes when the results show goes out here tomorrow. Would the producers have let it go if Ryan had sent Lil to safety instead? I probably would in their place. So long as Ryan didn’t end up with the wrong person in front of the judges it wouldn’t have mattered too much.

Business Wire/AOL are reporting that from May 4th a fourth hour of content will be added to Ryan’s internationally-syndicated radio show.

Premiere Radio EVP of Affiliate Marketing Julie Talbott is quoted as saying:

“We’ve seen such tremendous growth and success with the syndication of On Air in the last year. Affiliates took notice as well. They saw an opportunity to expand their audiences and requested more content. We can’t wait to deliver an extra hour of top entertainment news, music and interviews.”

This is awesome news for everyone who listens to one of the syndicated shows, in particular those of us outside the States for whom tuning into KIIS FM isn’t an option.

Ryan introduces the band and the judges, handing over to the legendary Simon Cowell to explain the changes to the judging format: only two judges will comment at the end of each performance to save time after last week’s overrun. That sucks. I could live with Simon+1 after each performance, but if Simon’s not going to comment they should just skip to Ryan. I miss Ryan’s banter with the judges too; this format really isn’t good. Ryan’s not wearing the tie bar tonight, but he looks really good and the tie he’s wearing is fabulous.

Europe’s a big place! If it’s 10am, we know Ryan’s somewhere in western mainland Europe, as he’s one hour ahead of us in the UK, and looking back to another tweet:

Lionel Richie is apparently playing a gig in Stuttgart tonight, so maybe those two tweets are connected.

Ryan asked the judges for their comments about the performance show and said that contestants don’t want to peak too soon, before introducing a song from the year Simon Cowell was born … and this time it was Frankie Avalon from 1949 (sorry Simon, slip of the keyboard…), not Edison’s famous ‘Mary had a little lamb’ recording as Ryan played on his radio show.

The group song was Kylie’s addictive ‘Can’t get you out of my head’ from the year American Idol was born and, typically for group songs, really wasn’t great. It might have worked with just Allison and Adam but some of the contestants just don’t have the vibe for that kind of song. The Ford commercial was good though, but again some of the contestants worked the styling really well, others …. not so much.

A little before American Idol was due to broadcast to the East Coast, and those of us watching online, Ryan tweeted

RyanSeacrest: Tie bar it is

We were stoked! We love the tie bar, and we love how Ryan wears it a little higher than convention dictates. So when the show started, we were looking for the tie bar … and couldn’t see it! The stream quality isn’t great tonight, so we weren’t 100% certain if he’d just picked one the same colour as his tie and figured we’d wait for the show to air in Europe to check closely.

So first up was Danny Gokey, and when Ryan appeared at the end of his song … well here’s our MSN transcript of that moment:

Fortunately Ryan explained on Twitter before simultaneous reports of tie bar-related hallucinations spread around Europe:

This week each contestant sang a song from his or her birth year, which gives Idol an excuse to show baby photos.

As hinted by Ryan, the judges and Ryan didn’t escape so we were treated to an unbelievably cute photo of Ryan complete with big front teeth and what looked like strawberry blond hair. Adorable!

Sorry, girls … Ryan called his mom on the show to talk about the video of her on TMZ: Mama Seacrest — Ryan’s a Real Ladies Man! and she said he’s not marriage material … right now.

Ryan asked his mom what TMZ were trying to get out of her, and she replied that they were trying to get her to talk about his love life, which is off-limits. Ryan played clips from the TMZ video of his mom handling the questions and said he’d had a call from Ellen De Generes’ office wanting to book her for Mothers’ Day.

American Idol starts with a montage of the judges criticising the contestants … cmon, don’t make me wait for Ryan!

Ryan said there were 36 million votes this week for the top 9. Lady Gaga and David Cook will be performing on the show.

After introducing the judges, Ryan asks Randy where the contestants went wrong with song choice and talked about Kara getting heckled (by Megan’s brother). He asked Paula what the other contestants need to do to keep up with Adam and Simon who should leave tonight. Simon said Anoop, Matt and Megan, so maybe I wasn’t as far out of step with the judges’ opinions as I thought last night. Or at least the judge’s opinion I care about.
