Ryan'll Fix It

There was a really great feel-good story on Ryan’s show this morning. Ryan was sent an email by Bernadette, the coach of an under 10s girls’ soccer team. Her team had been beaten into second place by another under 10s girls’ team, but the other team was unable to progress in the tournament because the winning team’s girls’ families couldn’t afford the trip. Even though her team would go through in their place, Bernadette was looking for help raising funds for the other team.

Ryan asked Bernadette WHY she didn’t let her team go by default, and she explained that she wanted to teach her girls that there are people that need help and there are things they can do to help. Ryan spoke to the other team’s coach and she said that most of the players come from low income families, and she was obviously grateful for what Bernadette was doing. Hopefully the girls in that team will learn just as much from this.

Ryan and his team together with women’s professional soccer team LA Sol and KIIS sister station KLAC are going to get the winning girls’ team to the game and provide them with accommodation … and they’ve arranged for both teams to go to a soccer game as special guests of LA Sol after the tournament on Sunday.

Great work Bernadette, Team Ryan and the other people who helped them do this.

On Ryan’s twitter:

RyanSeacrest: Big thx to new WPS soccer team LA Sol for helping us provide transpo & lodging for the Huntington Park AYSO girls soccer team. Good luck!

For those of you outside the UK, the title is a nod to a British children’s TV programme called “Jim’ll Fix It” that was huge in the 70s, 80s and 90s. The show’s host Jimmy Saville made children’s wishes come true each week, and listening to Ryan this morning fixing it for these kids reminded me of that show.

For those of you inside the UK, we’re talking about football ;-)
