American Idol 2009: Top 13 Results Show
Ryan’s so dramatic at the start of Idol. Love it! He tells the audience there have been 33 million votes, which is awesome — and another ‘highest at this stage’ record.
Ryan didn’t spend too long introducing the judges, instead explaining the twist — the judges’ save. For the first time, the judges have the power to overrule the vote and give the contestant with the least number of votes another chance. The catch is they can only do it once during the season and it has to be a unanimous decision. The week they call the save, nobody will go home, but the following week will be a double elimination.
The contestants’ house looks great, but when will they get time to enjoy it if they’re working so hard! And just as I type that, Ryan says Adam was working until midnight and back up at 7am.
It’s fun to watch the Ford video as they’ll probably be cut out of the ITV2 show this year after the controversy last year about product placement.
First to be put out of his misery is Michael Sarver and he’s through. Allison Iraheta’s through too — Ryan will be done in five minutes if he carries on at this rate! Jasmine Murray is next to stand up, but she doesn’t get to find out and she’s called down to centre stage instead. Next to stand up is Matt Giraud, who’s keen to join Jasmine in the middle, but is told to stay where he is … and he’s safe. Kris Allen and Megan Corkrey are next to stand, but Kris is safe and it’s Megan who joins Jasmine in the middle of the stage. After a very short amount of torture for the girls, Megan makes it through and Jasmine is the first of the top 13 to go home. The judges can save her if they want to, but she’s had enough second chances so I doubt they will. After singing again, Randy tells Jasmine she’s going home and Ryan whispers a few words of comfort. He genuinely sounds sincere and he’s great at giving the show a bit of warmth.
A break from the results as Kanye West performs Heartless.
Scott MacIntire, Alexis Grace and Danny Gokey are told they’re safe without any drama. Next up is Anoop Desai and he’s called to centre stage. I don’t think there’s any chance he’s going home though. Neither is Adam Lambert who is next to stand and next to sit. Jorge Nuñez is next to stand and he’s the one I think is going home. Lil Rounds is the last contestant, and she’s safe. Ryan brings Jorge down to join Anoop … then cuts to a break. LOL. I love it when they do that and I miss it when ITV2 go straight into the result instead. But they won’t be able to this time as Kelly Clarkson is singing after the break while Anoop and Jorge sweat it out a little longer. Kelly’s album was out yesterday, so I guess that explains why she’s on the show this week. I really like the song though.
Ryan finally tells Anoop he’s safe! No surprises there. I’d be surprised if Anoop was much outside the top five or six. I love the way Simon delivers his ‘no’ when Ryan asks if they’re going to save Jorge. Straight to the point.
I like the new format, and it’ll be interesting to see how long the judges will wait before using their save.
