American Idol 2009: Results Show 3
THIS is American Idol, and THIS is Ryan Seacrest looking very, very sharp! I love the slightly-loose tie even though part of me wants to reach right into the TV screen and straighten it.
Simon gets a warm reception (they’ll probably turn on him as soon as he says something honest), but doesn’t seem to get the same level of hysteria on American Idol as he does on The X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent. Maybe it’s because the audience is still quite small.
It looks for a second as if Ryan’s going to join in with the group song! The contestants are singing Katy Perry’s Hot ‘n’ Cold, which is an awesome song, but their version is mostly cold. Really not loving this. Ryan runs through a recap of yesterday’s show, including a rerun of his explanation of shopping for Simon and his high five with Scott.
Jorge was feeling the cold because it’s 78 degrees in California and it’s usually 90 degrees in Puerto Rico. What’s that in Celsius? It’s about 6 degrees C here! Ryan asked Ju’Not about his disappearing act, which was because he’d had an asthma attack.
Ryan called Lil down first and she was right through to the final 12 without any drama. Next he told Ariana, Taylor, Alex, Kendall and Scott to stand up and said one of them was through, then cut to a break :) Obviously it’s Scott. First Ryan called Simon’s criticism of Arianna “harsh”, asked if she had any regrets … then told her she’d not made it. Taylor and Alex were also dismissed. Ryan asked Scott and Kendall to stand up together before telling Scott he was through.
We see Ryan walk off stage after he’s handed Scott the mic and it’s really annoying that they take the cameras off him and keep them on the contestants. Don’t they realise we watch this for Ryan and we want to know where he goes? Or is that just us…
Ryan asked Hollywood week sparring partners Nathaniel and Kristen to stand up together and told Nathaniel that Simon said the performance was terrible but he still likes you. The camera cut to Simon shrugging and pulling a face. Ryan said “that may have been my favourite moment of the season so far” “new screensaver for me, Simon” to which Simon replied, “I can believe that!” Both were given a ‘no’, as were Von and Felicia. Ju’Not and Jorge were the next pair to be called down, and this one is difficult to call. I prefer Ju’Not but Jorge’s the one through. Ryan’s “we’ll find out …. right now” was funny.
This seemed to go too quickly … I think I prefer the results to be more drawn out. It’s more fun when Ryan toys with the contestants a little more, but tonight he had to get onto the wildcard round. The judges had to pick eight from those who’d been brought back, plus those who were sitting on the coach.
Ryan asked each judge in turn to announce one of the eight, introducing Simon as ‘Darth Vader’. Simon obviously thought it was funny but asked Ryan to stop being a smart arse, and proceeded to tell him off. New tactic because he’s not winning many of their exchanges?
The eight with the second chance ticket:
- Von Smith
- Jasmine Murray
- Ricky Braddy
- Megan Corkrey
- Tatiana del Toro
- Matt Giraud
- Jesse Langseth
- Anoop Desai
Three of these will be through to the final twelve in the show that follows right on from this one (in the UK at least). I’d like to see Matt Giraud, Anoop Desai and Ricky Braddy go through, but the top 12 is already male dominated so they’ll probably pick a couple of girls to even things back up. Jasmine Murray is one the judges have been bigging up and Simon seems to like Megan Corkrey, but my favourite girl is Jesse Langseth so I’ll hope for Anoop, Matt and Jesse.
