American Idol 2009 Week 3 Program 2: San Juan, Puerto Rico
San Juan Auditions
Jorge Nuñez was the first contestant we saw from Puerto Rico and the first to get a golden ticket. Jessika Baier said she had entered between 500 and 700 singing contests and won many of them, but she didn’t win the judges over with a weak audition and even got criticised by Paula. Carlos Santos showed the judges his moves but didn’t impress with his voice.
Crazy Rocker Joel Contreras thought he was creative and sang from his guyPod, but Simon asked for another song as soon as he started. We were grateful to Simon for cutting it short. None of the judges liked it, but Joel celebrated anyway by jumping in the pool. Next up, Kendall Beard got through with four yeses.
Monique Garcia Torres brought her little brother along for the cute factor. The judges didn’t think her voice was up to the songs she chose, and thought she could use a bit more confidence. Randy and Paula said no, but Paula and Simon put her through to the next round. Patricia Lewis Roman was auditioning in the room where her parents got married, which was cute. She did a pretty good job with a Whitney song, but the judges didn’t think the song choice suited her. I liked her second song less than the first. The judges were divided, but she made it through to the next round.
Ryan wore a grey teeshirt, blue jeans and black canvas shoes, and was looking particularly fine. The audition ended with a party and we finally got to see what Ryan and Simon were laughing at during the montage in the first audition show from Phoenix!

Nine tickets to Hollywood altogether from Puerto Rico – does that explain the split show with New York?
