Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, Sunday March 21

Posted on Thu, 11 Mar 2010

A special preview of the premiere of “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” will air Sunday, March 21 (10:01 p.m.-11:00 p.m., ET) and will be repeated on Friday, March 26 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET). The second episode will air from 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET, in the series’ regular time period.

“Episode 101” Jamie Oliver, the impassioned chef, TV personality and best-selling author, is starting a revolution in America, taking on the high statistics of obesity, heart disease and diabetes in this country, where our nation’s children are the first generation not expected to live as long as their parents. Oliver invites viewers to take a stand and change the way America eats, in our home and schools, with the thought-provoking new series, “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution,” debuting SUNDAY, MARCH 21 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network and repeating FRIDAY, MARCH 26 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET). The series will run for six episodes.

In the series premiere, Oliver heads to Huntington, West Virginia which has been called the unhealthiest city in America — to start his new cooking initiative. He hopes to start a chain reaction of positive change across the country. Jamie says that nearly half of the adults in Huntington are considered obese, and incidents of heart disease and diabetes lead the nation. This nation’s children are the first generation expected to live a shorter life than their parents do. Jamie initially meets naysayers and resistance. Battling ingrained unhealthy habits, bureaucracy, limited financial resources, and apathy, his early efforts are threatened when a news article overseas misquotes him badmouthing the local populace and their diet. Bloodied but unbowed, Jamie is more determined than ever to transform one community as a template for the entire country. The stakes? Simply the health of our country’s citizens and the legacy for its children.

“Episode 102” — Jamie Oliver takes one step forward and two steps back as his efforts to transform the school lunch program of Huntington, West Virginia’s Central City Elementary School are met with harsh criticism and resistance from the school cook, Alice Gue, plus city administrators, DJ Rod and even the school’s first graders. But despite the opposition, he does successfully raise the ire of school parents with a shocking, no-nonsense display of the fat that’s being fed to their children, and he’s encouraged by the initiative of a few caring teachers. The Edwards family get a wake-up call when youngest son, Justin, gets a frank warning from a doctor about the long term health effects of his poor eating habits, but then Justin is encouraged by a one-on-one cooking lesson in Jamie’s kitchen. After a week of ups and downs at Central City Elementary, the fate of Jamie’s mission to stay on at the school lies in the hands of a few district administrators, on “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution,” FRIDAY, MARCH 26 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

The series is produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and Fresh One Productions. Executive producers of “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” are Jamie Oliver, Ryan Seacrest and Craig Armstrong (“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”).

Ahead of the first of this week’s American Idol live shows, here’s a look back at what happened last week.

The first performance show opened with Ryan saying that the contestants had survived their first results show, then shaking hands with a girl in the audience, pausing to say, “hello, thanks for watching the show!”

This was a perfect opportunity to grab a screenshot that illustrates two questions.

After his performance on American Idol results show, Kris appeared on Ryan’s radio show. During the interview, Kris told Ryan that Adam really ought to listen to him because he told him to put Whataya Want From Me out as his first single and Ryan asked about Kris’ home life and how he balances everything that comes with being the American Idol winner with his home life, and ended up thinking Kris has got it all worked out.

Idol: Ashley Rodriguez and Janell Wheeler

Posted on Fri, 26 Feb 2010

Ashley and Janell talked to Ryan after their elimination from American Idol yesterday. Janell and Ashley were roomies and Ryan asked if they were friendly before that. He asked Ashley about making sense of being eliminated this early – she said everything happens for a reason even if it sucks, and said American Idol is the biggest platform she’s had so far. Janell had a feeling she would leave and Ryan asked if she would have done anything differently. She replied would have played guitar first week, perhaps been a little more herself putting a twist on a hip hop song.

Idol: Top 24 elimination

Ryan started building the drama as soon as the show started, telling us that the votes are in (24 million of them) and four people would be going home. He introduced the judges and asked Simon why he’d been harsher than normal the night before. Simon said he didn’t think he had been particularly harsh, adding if you’re judging the show you’ve got to give people advice. Ryan confirmed that Simon believed he was just helping, saying, “you were charitable last night? Thank you,” and moving on leaving Simon looking slightly unsure. Ryan introduced the group number … and this clip will never, ever get old:

Oh, Ryan!

Idol: Top 12 guys recap

Posted on Thu, 25 Feb 2010

Day Two of the live shows and this time it was the turn of the top 12 guys. Ryan opened the show with a little poke at Simon.

Get ready. Are we ready? Are you ready? Let’s go! THIS is American … Simon, stop talking!

This time Ryan was wearing a white shirt with a couple of buttons undone and a grey suit with a pocket square … the suit looks great on him though I preferred what he wore yesterday because he always looks smokin in black.

Ryan does that thing with his hands

Simon was also wearing a white shirt, with several butons undone, which Ryan mentioned in his introduction: “Simon, missing a button, Cowell”. Simon actually looked quite smart. For him.

Ryan asked the judges to give the contestants some advice. Simon interrupted Kara’s comment about finding a place that feels safe to you to helpfully suggest, “like Little House on the Prairie”, but his own advice was a bit more blunt: “if you lose it tonight or forget the words, your career is over.” Ryan took that as his cue to bring out the first victim, laughing as he said, “on that fantastic chipper note, who’s ready to get it going?”

Idol: Top 12 girls recap

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards Salute To Icons

It’s the moment we’ve been waiting for — the first live Idol show of the year. As the start of the first episode approached, anticipation was running high about the important questions. What will Ryan be wearing? Casual or smart? Light or dark? Is he still obsessed with tie bars? If he’s wearing a jacket, will he have a pocket square … and will he have eaten his words about peaks meaning “I’m yesterday” and worn it pointy side up. So many questions! And we haven’t even started on his hair. It was all a little too much, but finally the wait was over and the she show started … in the control room, teasing us with a tiny Ryan in the middle of the screen. We could see he was wearing a dark shirt and a tie … and fortunately, before the squinting to see could cause permanent damage, the director said “Cue the Queen!” “Cue Ryan!” and the full treat-sized Ryan was there for our viewing pleasure.

And was it ever worth the wait! Ryan looked HOT with a capital everything.

Giuliana's dress continues to wreak havoc

Posted on Thu, 18 Feb 2010

On today’s radio show, Ryan had Ellen read out a story from Mike Walker of the National Enquirer about how Ryan had raved about the accuracy of his recent story about Guiliana keeping Ryan waiting while she fiddled with her hair extensions, and Ryan telling her that her dress had actually damaged TV cameras, costing the network six figures and knocking out the TV feed to Asia.

Ryan got Giuliana on the phone to talk about it some more, and even brought Brian the engineer into the conversation as Giuliana has spoken to other people at E! and doesn’t believe that her dress damaged cameras, even though the knock-on effects are still ongoing — it’s now affecting the clocks in the studio.

Giuliana is holding firm in her love of the shiny, so between Giuliana’s high-glitz-fashion, Brian’s dead pixels, Ryan’s anatomical clocks, and the butterfly effect, it would seem we’re all doomed.

Ryan rocks New York City

The ‘Ryan, Rock My Town’ concert featuring Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta and Kris Allen took place in New York City yesterday. Between live streams and YouTube, I’ve seen a lot of the show, and everything about it looked awesome! Props to Sadao and the other organisers for a job well done.

The show wasn’t without drama. Allison started singing what sounded like a different arrangement of Scars, then stopped … saying she’d started in the wrong key and was going to start over! She showed her sense of humour at the restart “can you give me the note, dude, because I’m frickin’ lost!” and using the lyrics to poke fun at herself. Adam was a show-stopper, literally, because someone fainted and they paused his set to get her some help. Not content with making one girl expire in a flailing puff of glitter, Adam proved too much for another glambert during Whole Lotta Love, while others were content to get intimately acquainted with the glambulge (you can laugh at the glambulgegate fallout on twitter … fortunately not the sort of fallout that would have had the rest of the glamberts dropping like dominoes). @rsp tweeted to say Kris was planning to make three girls faint … but in the end, he seemed content to just rock the place out!

Ryan Seacrest Star On The Hollywood Walk of Fame

There’s a discussion in the Ryan Seacrest Fan Forum about which parts of On Air with Ryan Seacrest we like best.

Here’s what I said …

My favourite parts of the show are Ryan’s gift of song, which has me in stitches, when Ryan calls his mom/sister/Giuliana/Simon/Ellen/anyone else who knows him well enough to tease him, Ryan talking about his dodgy plumbing and other disasters that befall him, when Ryan interviews people he has history with and they tell stories from the past, guests who turn it around and make it about Ryan, and when he and Ellen are just chatting about random stuff. Basically anything that keeps the show about Ryan.

Oh, and I LOVE it when he matter-of-factly claims credit for something he’s obviously not done and doesn’t expect us to believe he’s done … “I was flicking through Farmers’ Weekly last night” or “I told Natalie about this months ago” or when Ryan flat out denies something he said live on air, pretending he doesn’t remember, so we all get to side with Ellen with mock outrage at him being such a boy!

Other people in the forum like Ryan’s stories about spilling coffee or dropping his blackberry in the toilet, his flirting with guests, his ‘priceless’ advice … but opinion is definitely divided on Ryan’s Roses. What do you think?

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

Ryan opened the show on a cheerful note: it’s Hell Week and the worst is yet to come! This show covers group day and Ryan pointed out that for the 96 contestants who have made it this far, a bad decision can ruin everything. Some of the early favourites could crash and burn if they make a bad decision now.

We watched groups form, fall apart, reform, argue, bitch, rehearse … and there were the usual power struggles, tears and tantrums — and even a bit of espionage. Ooooh, the drama! Ryan made it all sound very exciting.

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards Salute To Icons

At the start of the show, Ryan introduced new judge Ellen Degeneres and said that from more than 100,000 people who turned up to audition, 181 had made it through to Hollywood Week.

Ryan, looking good enough to eat in his Burberry suit, then stood in front of the Hollywood Week contestants and explained that only 12 girls and 12 guys will make it through what will be the toughest week of their lives. No pressure there, Ry!

We watched Ryan introduce Ellen to the contestants then have a backstage chat to ask her what kind of judge she’s going to be. A damn good one, I should think. Simon needs to up his game or I might have a new favourite judge this year!

Ryan continued to distract us by looking far better than anyone should be allowed to look, so I had to rewind the show to find out that he wasn’t just being pretty to camera and was actually explaining day one is ‘sudden death’ for the contestants, so if they don’t impress the judges they’re on their way home.
